My DS is allergic to wheat, eggs, nuts, milk and soy. He has just had a reaction to lunch at the children's centre and they served him lentil and vegetable risotto and watermelon and cantaloupe for dessert which I thought would be fine.

Do you think he could be allergic to lentils as well given his current allergy history?

Yes, it's definately possible:( what a pain! I think lentils are a risky food, they may come into the same category of nuts? Not AS allergic but definately a risk. Watermelon is a salicylate so that could also be an issue.

I have a multiple foods allergy child myself so I feel your pain!:hugs:

Yup just when I thought I had most of his allergies sorted out.... :o

He has had watermelon and cantaloupe before so I didn't think it would be them although his carers said they noticed the reaction only after he had eaten the fruit.

Might have to add lentil to the growing banned foods list! :(

Yeah I think soy is a lentil isn't it............so if he's allergic to soy then high probability he has an allergy to other lentils too.

Hope he's OK :hugs:

food allergy/intolerance can build up over time so it's POSSIBLE the reaction could have been to the fruit... only way to tell is to trial each seperately again! How big a reaction are we talking??? My ds has soy allergy but can have lentils in moderation. Each child is differnet though so as I said, trial and error only way to find out! (Unless we are talking anaphylactic obviously!!):)

I would be asking for ingredients of the rissotto as may be something else that affected him.

The reaction my son gets is hives and a rash all over his face and neck and is very itchy.

I've seen the risotto recipe that the centre uses (they cook all their food onsite) and it was lentils, rice, onions, mixed vegetables and cooking oil.

*sigh* poor boy I feel awful - he doesn't like eating because of this and just when I thought I got his allergies sorted out another one pops up.

Is allergy/intolerance to watermelon/melon common? He's eaten it before and loved it without any reactions although the carers did say they noticed the rash after he ate the fruit but I am wondering whether it was a late reaction to the risotto or fruit related.

Back to challenge tests I guess! :o

It's not uncommon because watermelon is high in salicylates, which is a food chemical. When you say "mixed vegetables" most of the vegies were likely salicylates too so it's prob going to be hard to tell. I'd give a bit of melon again if you think that's less likely and test for a reaction. If you don't get one I'd try a teeeeny bit of lentils and test the same. Good luck!!!!!!!:)

Lentils I *think* are legumes which peanuts also fall into the same category as... so it wouldn't be a big stretch

my husband is allergic to nuts and legumes - lentils are a legume so it is highly possible that they caused the reaction.

Bugga!
