Our DD is Za hlia Ca it thought it was pretty rare but have since seen it a few times (the Zah lia not the Ca it)
our friends have Tarr a which is unusual spelling
and my name is Cat riona (pronounced Cat tree ona not Katrina thank you very much - I had big arguments with a friend at uni how insisted that I was pronouncing my name wrong, she is Irish and thought that she new better but my name is Scots Gaelic and not Irish and by her logic her name would have been Feena not Fiona so there:hissy:) (issues who me)

any hoo the only drama with unusual names is you never get any of that "personalized" stuff with your name and you constantly have to spell it oh well worth it to stand out from the crowd!

I hate to rain on your parade Catriona, but I grew up in Scotland and the correct pronunciation is most definitely the same as Katrina. (Well, Katrina is a modern form of Catriona). It's a very common name over there, and I have never once heard it pronounced differently, not even in the Highlands.

It was a name that always dissapointed me ...looks so pretty but the pronunciation wasn't so nice (same as Aisling (pronounced Ashleen), Siobhan (pronounced Che-von), etc).

I'm pleased you've been able to pronounce it the way you do as I think it's so much nicer, but don't be hard on the folk who want to correct you, as strictly speaking they are right. If you moved to Scotland, you'd go insane trying to get people to pronounce it your way.

Now if only I could teach the Aussies to say Cairns as Cay-r-ns instead of Cans !
