Hi there,

Just a quick question regarding feeding my little man, he is 22 weeks old and has been formula fed since he was 7 weeks old.

He has been having 5 feeds a day since around 13 weeks, and has been sleeping through the night since then also.

The last 3 days, he has totally cut out one of his feeds. Unfortunately, not the 10:30 at night feed, but the 10:30am feed. He is under his quota of milk for the day without it, but he just squeals and refuses to take it. At his next feed (approx 2-3pm) he is fine and takes 250ml instead of the standard 200ml. He is not having solids, and the doctor checked him and can't see anything wrong and said he is not showing signs of even wanting solids yet. Apart from the squealing and obvious objection to taking the bottle at this time, he is his normal self and laughing and chatting away. I have noticed though, that his morning nap is extending as well.

Should I be worried? Is it normal for them to do this at ths stage of development?

As you can probably tell, this is my first bub and ..... like all new mums ........ I worry when our routine differs from the norm.

If anyone has any advice, I'd surely love to hear it.

Thanks

Hi,

My son dropped a feed around 4 months too. He is 5 months now & for the last month he has been having 4 x 180mls bottles a day. I cant get anymore into him, but I've given up trying now. He is happy & putting on weight. Dont forget the tin is a guide only, some babies will want more & some less. I was told the average they should be having is 150ml per kilo of weight - that means DS should be having about 1000mls a day but he only averages 700mls per day.

I think just use your son as a guide, he'll let you know if he gets hungry.

Thanks for the reply. I can't help but be worried that he is not getting enough fluids, but as you say he'll tell me..... not the other way around I guess!!! He is still putting on weight and even with the funny feeding and cutting out bottles, he has still put on 150g in just over a week so I guess his body is coping just fine.

Thanks

I found that trying to get bubs to have the 4 feeds a day instead of 5 was really difficult (it's them just sticking to their routine, lol).
I just kept putting the extra in and he eventually started drinking it all instead of leaving the extra, and of course the more they have the longer between feeds, just persevere with it and he will eventually catch on.
He will let you know when he's hungry, as i've found out, lol
