Hi, I am 39 and living in Holland Park with 22 month old son and DH.

We have moved over from the UK and have only been here in Australia 6 weeks now. We spent the first 4 weeks in South Bank in temp accomodation until we found this house we are renting. I do not drive, I dont know anyone, I dont know the area, I have not yet managed to find any local shops or playgroups walking distance so will have to check out where the buses will take me and am desperate to meet people and make friends not just for me but for my son, Thomas.....

Is there any mums and dads around locally that fancy a meet up for coffee, I am quite happy to put the kettle on, you can reply here or PM me. It would be lovely to hear from you!

Hi Teresa, I know how hard moving can be and how lonely it can be too. I've moved to Ireland in the last year and it takes a while to get to know people and things in your area. Can I say welcome to Australia? Well it's my home, so it's a great country!

Firstly if you contact your local council, they will be able to tell you what things and facilities are available to you in your area - such as playgroups and places you could meet other mums. (you will find them in the front of the white pages phone book, or online)

If you guys have a car, on the weekend your partner could drive you around the area so you get familiar with it and find out where the shops and parks are. Parks are great places to meet other mums!

Also there is an a Queensland section on here, with a Brisbane sub section, so you can post questions in there and maybe there is someone near you or there might be a meet you could get to.

Hope that helps and you are coping with the weather

Hi! I'm in Carina Heights, which is near Holland park. I don't drive much due to SPD but I'd be happy to meet up some time. I'm due on the 4th Dec. PM me if you'd like.
