Yay! So I thought "geeeeeez I need to buy some bottles and what not"
Then I stood in the bottle aisle and I looked a bit like this
Slow flow, fast flow, cross hatch, anti colic... erm... medium flow.. what/?!

Then I thought "Those bubhubians, they'll know what to do!"
No doubt entirely sick of my questions, I feel so unprepared like I should have read this somewhere or listened more at school because no doubt I slept through the entire "HOW TO CARE FOR THE BABY YOU'LL EVENTUALLY HAVE" class or something.
(No, really, how do people just KNOW this stuff?)

So yeah.
Bottles, I'm guessing are just bottles.. but what sort of teats are newborny?
Silocone or Latex?

Can I only use certain teats with certain bottles?

HELP!

I had the same scared thoughts a few weeks ago and then I spoke to my sil who bottlefed from birth and she said she just got normal bottles that she thought were cute and if the teats were not working went and got different flow teats - coz you wont know what bubs likes until they are born

she orginally had the colic ones but didnt like using them so went and bought a pack of the winnie the pooh ones and they are her favourite

so I have gone out and bought about 12 bottles (mainly tommee tipee) and will look at different teats later if I need to

buy the silicone teats as they can be sterilized in the microwave:thumbsup:
and you will need slow flow teats to start off with. It's up to you really if you want to buy the wide neck bottles, much of a muchness. Both my DD's never took to the wide neck ones.
Don't feel silly asking, that's why this forum exists!:D

I have Avent bottles (and breast pump) I started out using the teats that came with the bottles, but ended up getting some pigeon brand ones. They are much softer.

Every baby seems to prefer something different. I probably wouldn't buy too much of that kind of stuff until bubba is born and he/she tells you what they like :)

Seekrit - If you can, wait until the Brisbane Baby expo t stock up on stuff like this. I went there last year for a nosey and they had an avent stall which is where we bought a brand new avant IQ steam sterilizer for $50 less than the retail price, plus they threw in a starter pack of bottles for an additional $20 which included 4 x bottles, bottl brushes, dummies etc. Also, there was a tommee tippee sall and a pidgeon stal and numerous other stalls selling things at a much cheaper price than the shops. Oh, one thing I would add though is.. wait until the last day of the expo as that is when they are trying to get rid of stuff me thinks.. well thats when we went anyway

Go silicone teats, latex ones taste gross and wear out rather quickly. Same with dummies BTW, go silicone (Heinz make a good dummy) as latex ones will need replacing often. Get slow flow to start with and work your way up every 2-3mths.....or whenever your baby starts looking like they can't get enough out quick enough.

I've used Avent bottles each time. I tried the cheapo ones from Coles/Woolies and found that they leaked regardless of what brand teat I used with them.

Ah yes, of course.

What you need is the fast/slow cross-hatch, triple teat whippersnippering variflow. That's what I used and it worked a treat .

Now I know why Luka never took to a bottle; even his mum couldn't work them out .

Good luck :D

I like PUR teats the best, plus they have the age group written on the packaging and sometimes the teat eg. slow flow 0-3 mths, medium flow 3-6 etc. My bub is on fast flow now and she is 11 mths. Also, theres no need to spend a fortune on bottles. Clear measurement on the side is good. I bought cheapies from coles and just replaced the teats that came with them with pur ones. And my bub didn't like the wide neck bottles (they cost nearly $10 each!!) and she didn't like the teats that are suppose to be like your nipple. I also liked anti-colic teats too. I too had no idea what I was doing! I hadn't planned on bottle feeding but when breast feeding didn't work out I rushed to the shops and bought all these expensive bottles that I never used. So like everyone has said just experiment with what you like and what bubs likes. Like with most things, we work it out as we go along:D

Well i didnt even realise teats came in different flows until my sister bought me some just before bubs arrived lol so i had all different teats for different ages ( im also a ditz so yeah lol ).
Anyways that being said bubs hated all the slow flowing teats & their shapes also so i finally found he liked the cross cut teats which are meant for older babies but because they need to suck to get the milk he preferred it & it was great for his colic & wind.
So be careful on what you get & how much because i would advise getting some bottle etc you can get them all cheap now from the likes of Big W & often in a pack with a microwave steriliser then get a few teats but dont spend a fortune until you know bubs is happy with what you have then you send your darling man out to fetch what you need at a later stage lol.
Dont worry i think most of us were all the same as what you are now very excited about the arrival but daunted by all the products & whats needed etc.
Seriously just get basics & then you can work out what you really need.
Half the stuff around is marketed at us because they know us mums are suckers for doing the right thing by our babies so assume the new fandangled thinga-magig is needed to make us a good mum.
As long as bubs is warm has mum & lotsa love all will be fine :hugs:
