I have a headbanger on my hands. Not only does he headbang in time to music (looks funny on a little guy with no hair) but he bangs his head on walls, tables, and most annoyingly of all, ME!

I know he does it when he's frustrated/tired/hungry/bored, and we go through the "stop that hurts" routine and try to sort out whatevers wrong. It just seems as though its his method of choice at the moment for letting me know he has an issue. I understand that, but an awful amount of times he konks me in the head and teeth...OUCH. I'm getting better at avoiding it, but it still happens from time to time. It doesn't seem to hurt him at all, even when it makes horrifying noises.

My question is - does anyone else have this problem?

I'm hoping its something he will grow out of as he learns to communicate more effectively. Sooner rather than later would be nice...

lol aww how cute. My DD does the same to music espeically in the car..she goes crazy she shakes her head from side to side n bangs her head really hard laughing at the same time. Now she has started to headbutt me...until she realizes that it hurts her too lol.

My 14mth old boy is the same! Music, he loves bopping too! But I do get concerned when he head bangs the walls, couch, door and most recently my head - ouch!!! I found the more attention I gave him the more he would do it, even if I said, no, he would smile and keep going, but now that I ignore it, he will do it a couple of times, then stop cause he isn't getting my attention! I guess they will eventually grow out of it!!:fingerscrossed:

DS1 is a headbanger also...
he will bang the back of his head against the lounge...... and on a few occassions has fallen asleep doing so
My mum has expressed concern with me, im not overly worried at this stage, but i think it would become more of an issue, if he continued to do this when he is older....

Noo I think it is a stage and linked to language frustration. My dd did this and while she still is a drama queen she doesn't head bang anymore. I cut preservative 282 out of her diet and think it did help alot. Doesn't work for every child but I think it did in our case.

I found dd never hurt herself head banging, I think they know their limits and they do it more if they have a horrified audience on hand. Try distraction but if your ds is like my dd and won't be diverted, walk away and ignore it.

Yep Boof has been head banging since 8mths i think from memory tis all a blur now.
He calms down for awhile & i think oh good he is getting over it for him to start it all back up :(
He has now started the biting phase also mainly on the furniture thank goodness !
But i think its because he is trying to cut his molars or should i say im hoping that is the reason :fingerscrossed:
