View Full Version : career change
I wonder how many people out there have completely changed their careers at any stage. I have taken a year off to have my baby. Stopped work at 6 months pregnant and am intending to work again when he's six months old because I have child care available in the house. I quit my job because I moved so I am not going back to my old job. I was a teacher for nearly 10 years and I just can't face going back to the classroom. Has anyone been in this situation?

Yes I did the same. Before my 1st DS was born I had been a Call Center manager in Melbourne. It was a good high paying job. But decided to move to Brisbane! So I had to quit. I started studying Psycology, just decided one day I wanted a career change and what better time than to utilise the time. I do it by correspondance So I don't have to leave home for anything but exams. I've just had my second DS 7weeks ago and have just started studying agin. I hated school too. But am loving studying.:p
Hi,
I too have been considering a career change. I am currently awaiting the arrival of bub no.2 and was wondering how I would go about fitting in further study and affording it with 2 kids under 2! Any suggestions?
For me, I have been kinda second guessing about how good I am at my current job and whether or not I would be better suited doing something else... a fresh start. After working today etc, its been on my mind all afternoon and making me feel a little on the depressed side.:(
Probably not a lot of help for you but, at least you know that there is someone else in the same position.

I've done a major turn around with my career. Up until I had DD I was working in hotels. I went back to work briefly when DD was 8 months old but stopped again to begin my Graduate Diploma of Education part time by correspondence.
Dibley, it can be done but you have to be very organised and very motivated! I can't profess to be always as hard-working as I should be but I do get the assignments done. As far as finances, we have been slogging it on DH's meagre income for 5 months but are now tired of not getting anywhere so I have applied to become a family day carer. This way I can still stay home with DD and earn good money. I will have to drop my study down to 1 subject per semester but I'm happy to take it slowly.
