Hi our paed has told us to get bubs onto the karicare AR but I can find any teats fast enough to keep bubs happy. I bought pur ones for fast flow but not much comes out and bubs is frustrated. He likes narrow teats. What do you girls use? Any suggestions?????????

Hi there
I too use this formula and the Avent bottles - for his age, Kade should be using a number 2 teat but in order for the thicker formula to flow I use the number 3.
Someone advised me on bubhub the other day that Avent has variable flow teats which you can just shift to increase the flow.
Hope this helps! Good luck, the formula has been a blessing for me in terms of reducing the amount of :barf:

My daughter was on Enfalac AR and also had a squeezable bottle because of her cleft lip. We tried large teats, but even squeezing the bottle as hard as we could, the teat would get blocked. It took me ages to work out that we had to make all the bottles up in the morning, and leave them in the fridge. The formula seemed to dissolve properly the longer it was left in the fridge. Give that a go, but still use a fast flow teat.
I have just started this formula today and found the fast flow teats way too fast so I have bought number 3 in the hope he likes it next feed.
Can someone please tell me if you prepare this formula as you do the other Karicare (I heat the water first then add the formula). The S26 tin specifically said to prepare it in cold water and then heat it but Karicare AR is the same instructions as the other Karicare range.

I've always mixed formulas with cold water, then heated.

Hi Carls - I use the number 3 Avent teats too and find them fine.
I usually heat the water then add the formula, but I am new to this too so I'm not sure this is right!
I make up about 6 bottles of boiled water (the right quantity) in advance, then when its time for a feed I heat one of the bottles in the microwave for 30 secs, then I add the formula. If Kade doesn't finish the bottle within the hour (which he never does!), I chuck it and start again for the next one.
I have one of Avent's little plastic containers with three seperated sections, so I have the right amount of formula ready to go each time. Also, to prevent constipation I have an additional 10mls of water in each bottle (i.e - he has three scoops of formula in 160mls of water, instead of the prescribed 150mls).
Hope this helps!
Well so far today I have wasted $32 on teats!!! Now he is coughing and spluttering on the number 3 teats, the formula is going thick and wont come out of the number 2 teats!!! He only took 50ml and now he wont stop screaming!!! :gloomy:
Yeah I use the Avent Variable Flow teats...they are fantastic....you can adjust the flow by turning the teat around, number 1, 2 or 3 flow so at the start of feed when bubs is hungry have it going fastest and bring it down to slow as the feed progresses...best thing I ever got onto...wish I had done with my DS

Wow, what an invention!!! I've never heard of them, they sound interesting though.

I dont understand - do you turn the bottle around? I have the variable teats but couldnt work out how to use them
I use the Karicare sensicare HA-AR and i had to by the Avent number 4 teats even though it was a jump from number 1s to number 4s but he coped and is nearly 6 months now. He started the AR formula when he was 15 weeks old.
I use the Avent bottles so just had to go up in the teat holes.
Hope this helps!

I tried the avent teats size 3 and he seems to be coping. Although the change of formula seems to be upsetting him. He has silent reflux and when he was on zantac and nans he was better than with zantac and karicare ar. I don't know we'll give it a few more days. Thanks for the teats advice though.!!!:)

Hi
I had to put bub on Karicare Sensicare HA-AR because of reflux, and found that it worked much much better than the HA we tried originally. Blair has had the HA-AR since he was 7 weeks old, and has always used a number 3 teat with the avent bottles. He is now 22 weeks old and our baby nurse said that the number 3 teat is still the one to use. Unfortunately with the HA-AR formula (as I am sure you've probably been told) there is no making it up ahead of time as it thickens the longer you leave it sit. I have found my stackable formula storer invaluable for trips away from home.
We also have a couple of the Pidgeon Perastaltic (Y shaped) teats and bottles that we alternate with. They are very good also as the baby can alternante the flow by how hard they suck. We mainly use them for day feeds when Blair is as bright as a button!!! :)
Hope this helps!
Carls....don't worry it took me forever to figure it out...it didnt really give clear instructions....you basically point the one dash line to babies nose...thats the slowest flow, two dashes - point to nose for faster flow and so on....the way they suck it and the way to hole is cut varies the flow....its quite a clever little invention when you figure out how to use it!!
Hi Alexandra,
Have you got the teats sorted yet? Took me ages to find the right one for our bubs to use. I tried the variable flow teat but it come out too fast for her. We use the Avent 4 hole teat now, not too fast and not too slow!
The other trick the the AR we have found is to mix it with cool water then heat it. If its mixed with warm water it gluggs up and sometimes blocks the teats. Its horrible stuff but works well for the reflux!
Try Pigeon Y cut teats (vari flow) or tommie tippee Vari flow teats. Both can be found in standard (slim line) neck and wide neck.
You will find pigeon in most chemists.

Avent teats aren't the best things to use cheap nasties. Most babies will be able to use these teats but not all.
I have some Y cut teats wide neck in pigeon brand I could post you. just PM me. I think I have one in standard neck also.
