Hello, hubby and I and our 18 month old are pondering a move from Sydney to the central coast (where I grew up...many moons ago!). We kind of like the Avoca area as it seems to have a lovely community feel (not to mention the beach) - but this is of course based on visiting and not actually living there.

To that end, I'd be interested in hearing from people from up that way who have an opinion (good or bad) on what it's like to live there. For example, is it a complete nightmare at holiday times? Also, perhaps some suggestions for other CC locations that meet our wishlist - close to beaches, good community vibe/village-y atmosphere, great local shops (so I don't always have to get in the car and go to mega-malls!) good facilities for bringing up kids etc etc.

thanks!

Hi
I dont live down Avoca way Im up the northern end of the coast.
I do know that the holiday/peak season around that way is quite chaotic.
Im biased but the Northern end of the coast has some gorgeous beaches and not as much as a touristy feel to it.
We have friendly communities around here and some well set out local shopping centres, not just the " mega- malls"

Norah Head is a beautiful area, as is Noravile, Budgewoi, Buff Point.

Goodluck with your decision and your move.
Once your up this way feel free to pop into the Central Coast chat threads and maybe come to a meet.

thanks MrsTwith3, very kind of you!

Have to admit I don't know your end of the coast particularly well, maybe hubby and I should get out and do some exploring before we commit to an area. Would commuting to Sydney be do-able do you think? is access to freeway okay?

It is super easy to get to the freeway from here. Good idea to look around and get a feel of all the areas you are interested in.
Goodluck.
