There's a heap of information about circumcision in this section, but unfortunately it takes a fair bit of digging to extract. This thread is intended to provide easily accessible information to parents who are researching circumcision. Hopefully it can be made a "Sticky".
As clearly stated in the Thread Title, this is the ANTI Circumcision Info Thread. If you are pro circumcision, please do not post in this thread, even if you disagree with something and want to reply. Instead, please feel free to start a pro circumcision info thread, and respond there.
If you have chosen to circumcise your son and are offended by something you read here, or by a link you follow, please don't take it personally. This thread is intended to educate, not attack.

To start this thread off, here's a great list of links originally posted by ApprenticeMomma.

Your entire list of links has been previously posted here: Loads of info on Circ. (http://www.bubhub.com.au/community/forums/showthread.php?t=4159) and is the very first post in that thread so should be easily found to anyone looking. No digging through threads to find.

I'd suggest to anyone looking in this section for info, please expand your search dates to more than the last 30 days of posts.

That thread quickly degenerated, and was locked. I was hoping to keep this thread informative and free of the usual debate, and easily found at the top of the page.

Circumcision from a Legal Viewpoint:
(Previously posted in another thread)

Circumcision is now recognised as an important human rights and legal issue. In December 1993, the Queensland Law Reform Commission tabled a research paper on the subject. Among the many profound statements made by the Commission were the following:

"The circumcision procedure is invasive, irreversible and major. It involves the removal of an otherwise healthy organ part. It has serious attendant risks. On a strict interpretation of the assault provisions of the Queensland Criminal Code, routine circumcision of a male infant could be regarded as a criminal act. Further, consent by parents to the procedure being performed may be invalid in light of the common law's restrictions on the ability of parents to consent to the non-therapeutic treatment of children." One would think this provision of the Criminal Code would also extend to other States and Territories in Australia. There have been suggestions in media circles recently that anyone who had a surgery performed on them as a minor for non-therapeutic reasons, can legally sue for damages, provided they proceed with litigation action from their 18th birthday until they reach the age of 24."

Thanks 3spunkyboys, I do think it's important to make an educated decision, and I'm glad you found the links useful. Thanks ApprenticeMomma for originally putting the list together.

There's an interesting discussion about circumcision at http://wreckingboy.livejournal.com/318545.html

It's written by a circumcised man but explores why circumcision of infants is unnecessary. It's quite graphic but well written & quite thought-provoking (& does contain info from some of the other sites posted).

WARNING: contains graphics which are not kid or work safe.

All baby boys uncircumcised!

Thats great. I would like to add that the boys are also complete, whole, normal, natural and intact.

Un usually has negative connotations (unemployed, unhealthy, unclean etc.) and implies a lack.

The 'un' has a subtle implication that circumcision is something that should have been done or will be done. The un word is a bit of a sneaky word.

This might sound pedantic, though I think the un word has helped to maintain circ in the USA.

Thank you for posting that link. My DH is one of the men who want their sons to look like them for some reason. When the time comes (if we have boys that is) I will certiainly show him this link and get him to read it all and see what he thinks then! It is a real eye opener.

Thanks everyone for the really great information you have all posted on here. I have 2 boys who are both uncircumsised as I fought a huge battle with DP and won. But unfortunately due to a medical condition I am being persuaded by DS1's urologist to have him done. I am really confused about what to do as it is his health at risk, long story but at the moment I am seeking a 2nd opinion and :fingerscrossed: hopefully it will work out .
