 Our baby will be 5 months old on the 23 June and weve had consitpution issues from about 3 months she started getting very frustrated and would struggle to find releaf She would be blocked for a 2 day period. When she was able to swallow she would go three times a day no problem. Anyhow the wife introduces her to coloxyl drops on Monday and by Monday afteroon shes crying and stressing out the caregivers at the local kindycare she attents for a few hours weekly. I get baby home and find her screaming up a fuss and difficult to get to sleep at bedtime 8-9pm. Once she calm down and went to dream land she slept well however her last bottle was free of C.D. Today the wife adds C.D and again the caregivers claim shes reaching new scream levels. and once again she was a pain to get to cot. I did some reshearch and S26 seem to be the consitpation formula so weve got to change any suggestion?. I have to explain the coloxyl drops results to the wife I told her not to use them though I didnt have the right explanation as to why not and baby wasnt consitpated at the time go figure I hid the drops under the bed and will post the result without C.D tomorrow night Any suggestions on get her to drink water xcuse to type error.

The next day: She slept well in the afternoon and right now she is having a nap. I have to wake her in 15 minutes and feed and bath her seem to be going well so far without C.D it was unnessary to begin coloxyl drops after removing them baby now goes bedy by with ease. Thanks for your views and help hints info This formula issue on S26 she poos hardlittle rocks all stuck together ( shes on solids Apples Pears Bananans) smooth paste like poo is preffered? does that have a bearing on the matter

Have you tried other alternatives like prune or pear juice (diluted in water) or sugar to ease constipation. It sounds like you are having a hard time with the coloxyl- who needs an unnecessarily unsettled bub!

With the formula it does seem that s26 is the constipation formula I am about to change my bub over to the Heinz Nurture one, it has the added bonus of being GE Free (see other thread in bottle feeding section).

good luck.

Hi Chuck,

We also started our newborn bub off on S26, as this was the formula the hospital used, however after a few days, my son became very constipated, and after speaking with my sister in law, who also had the same problem with S26 and her bub, we decided to change formulas.

We are now using Nestle Nan HA Gold, which has been fantastic, and he's now 9 weeks old and has never been constipated since.

While we were changing formula, and waiting for the constipation to ease (which takes 24-48 hours), we assisted him by giving him 1 teaspoon brown sugar in 20mls of boiled water). This was recommended to us by our Child Health Nurse, and it seemed to work well. Perhaps you could try this?

Good luck with it all.

Kirsty

I was the opposite. I started Eloise on S26 and switched to Nurture (cheaper) when she was about 7 months old and she got terribly constipated - so much so that she would scream while trying to poo and passed blood. I tried boiled water with brown sugar, prune juice, massage, all the old favourites did nothing to ease her. I tried colloxyl and found it to be fairly useless and my doctor suggested Parachoc. It's not recommended for children under 12 months, but the doctor told me it was OK if I gave her a reduced dose. It worked like a charm.

Oh and I switched back to S26 after going through about 4 tins of the Nurture (and continued constipation) and she was fine.

Everytime we have used s26, Tayla would be constipated and poo out pebbles. So, we are on the Nan HA gold and no problems whatsoever.

You can also try diluting the formula for a few weeks by adding in extra water to water it down and get her to pass everything through!!

My son had a terrible time with constipation last year before he turned 3.

Went on for 4 to 5 months, I was in pain when he was just wanted to cry every time.
We went to doctors, after doctor all suggesting different things, then sent to a pediatrtion and was perscribed Parachoc.. best thing.. It took a week for him to start pooing a smooth paste.. and a lot of encouragement from everyone in the family..

If you consult with your doctor Parachoc works wonders

Hes know almost 4 and we stick to a high fibre diet

I am also using the Nan HA gold and have been doing so for a few months. I find it fantastic and we have had no problems with constipation at all.

When I started my daughter on Formula, we used Karicare Gold and found that this made her constipated. Then changed to S26 and she is fine now.

Also have heard that the skins of a zucchine is a natural laxitive.

Our bubs has been on S26 for as long as he has been on formula.

Every now and then he gets a little consitpated, but we got some great advice from our Health Centre nurse, and thus, it never lasts long, and really does not cause him any distress.

When we mix his bottles, we add a little extra water. Not heaps ... just about 10ml (added to his 180ml). It works a treat ! Within an hour or so of having that bottle, he is pooping ! Amazing what a little water will do !

Hello,

When my daughter was 12 weeks i started using S26 as everyone says it is the best. But she soon became constipated, so i changed to Nestle Nan and no problems whatsoever.
The CHN say that S26 is notorious for giving kids constipation issues, i would never use S26 again.
But cannot speak enough about Nestle nan.
