Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) concerns

14 weeks along here and seem to have confusions/troubles understanding OSHC maternity cover. I've given them a call yet they seem to not quite understand my situation. My husband is the student and we're under family plan. They keep on checking my visa status instead of my husband's. It's worse that I don't change surname to my husband's.

anyone can help? Help!

I've scheduled an appointment with Dr Karen Chandler at Burnside Hospital (2 mins away frm home) and we're looking to go private if OSHC covers.

who is your cover with? My DH & I had private visitors cover, slightly different from OSHC cover, but he was the one with the work visa & I was on a spousal. I also had a different last name from him. But we never had any problems with our cover - it was through Medibank.

If you're on a family plan then I don't see any reason why they should be checking your visa. All I can suggest is that you persevere, put it in writing if possible. The hospital may actually have more experience in dealing with your insurers and be able to cut through the confusion.

we consulted the hospital's person in charge on insurance policies and such. she helped and we got a general view. not enough to make a decision yet though but it's something.

They are very tricky. All you can do really is keep asking until you get an answer that makes sense. Good luck.
