Hello all

I'll be having bub number 2 in May and am looking at going back to work in november. I live in calwell and will be working in Kingston. Can anyone reccomend some centres around Kingston or Home Calwell>Banks area. I take my other child to a centre in gordon but they don't take babies :)

Fyshwick Early Childhood Centre is awesome. 2 of my kids have been there and I wouldn't hesitate to use them again. It is only a few minutes from Kingston but I don't know if it would be convenient for you.

Hi
I use to work in the indusrty, so i can recommend Lavender Lane - lanyon shops, Calwell Early Childhood centre - calwell shops or for family day care call communities@work. They cover most of the southside

hope that helps

Hi there,

I have had a bad experience with my child care centre for my 3 year old, and I would not reccomend this centre to anyone. I will not say it on here, but will be happy to answer any pvt messages.

I am now going through putting my daughter into family daycare through communities@work.
I find family daycare to be far more personal and empathetic experience for a child, and also they will get the attention they need and deserve by a mother.

At my daughters dayvare there is over 30 children in the room, to only 2 carers. She gets screamed at, and she isn't learning anything, not only that but I have to fork out 320 per week for this treatment.

Communities@work will cater to your needs, and you can tailor make packages to suit you.

Thanks all so much! I will look into fyshwick and lanyon, i ave been told calwell doesn't take bubs

I was contemplating family daycare but don't like the idea of my bubba with just one person like there's no one to 'dob' if they're doing the wrong thing. Views?

a friend went into Fyshwick Early Childhood Centre today

the worker was screamign at the kids to shut the door

hmmmmmm

other than that she said it looks good

still i dont think screaming at the little ones is appropriate.

i ahve been told that the childcare centr at the hospital is excellent also ther is on in bruce too

there is also a little childcare centre in manuka.. havent heard anythign about ti but its nice and close to kingston so might be worth checking it out.

To be honest, that's one of the reasons that I never looked into Family Daycare. So I know how you feel.

first Thanks for the congrats im SO PROUD!

no i dont think u need to work within the hospital

as the person who recommended them to me doesnt.

i plan to go check them out in next few weeks and if i like what i see dd will be going on the waiting list then hopefulyl by 2010 there will a space for her p/t and i can go study p/t:yelclap:

i had an ex and his motehr did family day care she was LOVELY.. she no longer does it tho.. as this was 1st person that poped into my mind.. but as for somethings bad happening.. well it can happen at either form of childcare.. thats one of the reasons i will not let dd attend not untill she understands what is appropraite behaviour towards her.. that way if anything*touchwood* (worst case senario).. did happen she could tell me.. I have heard nasty stories of both Family DAy CAre and Childcare centres..

It scary thoguht leavign your precious child in the care of others... there are so many what if senrios.. ughh it does my head in..

My boys go to Richardson Early Childhood Centre run by Communties @ Work. Seriously I am a really fussy person when it comes to who looks after my kids and they are just brilliant, my kids adore the workers, they always want to go to child care. My youngest went there last week for the first time, she didn't want to come home she was having too much fun :crying: they even took photo's of her first day of 'school' and laminated it for me...really they are just the best!

You could always look into family day care... I’m in Bonython and found a lady right up the road from where I live..

I had both my girls in this and found it to be wonderful.. And also allot cheaper than day care..

You get to know your career, and you can meet them before you decide if they are a suitable person or not.... they soon become a big part of your Childs life and end up being just like in the family….

I found my girls have much more 1 on 1 time as she only had 3 other children... I was lucky because she had older children of her own she could take my eldest to school and pick up for me on days I worked later....

I found if we have crazy mornings and running late I could drop the youngest in her pj's and take some breakfast and my carer would sort her out.. Which some morning was heaven sent... when i go back to work after this bub i will be going back through family day acre... if possible the same one....

i too have reservations about family day care. Granted, the majority of the carers i have met are lovely, but you never know what happens behind closed doors... i have heard stories of children being left alone while carer 'runs' to the shop for milk or something..
These sorts of things would never happen in a childcare centre, nor is it likely that anything really bad (worst case scenario) would ever occur either. Having so many people around, there is always someone else watching. Yes, carers in centres have bad days as well, but they have the ability to walk away from a situation and know someone else can watch the children. Also, a centre that has a good director is less likely to have staff that feel that sort of pressure anyway.

the best way to judge a centre is to just turn up. Many centres like to make appointments to view, ****! if they are unable to allow you to come at your leisure and do a 'surprise' visit as such, then i'd like to know why. Obviously meal times and sleep times are not always appropriate times, but yuo should be able to walk in and feel comfortable with how the children are being treated at all times.
I use to tell the girls in my centre, pretend they are your chidren, and if you wouldnt feel comfortable leaving them here, then you arent doing your job properly.

Sorry about the rant, but i am a little bit passionate about care for children...

:iagree: i feel the same way i went to a centre that was really good when i was a worker as i wanted to take my child there and the lovely lady that was the teacher in the class did not know how many children staff now if your going to run the room you have to know that.
