Hi Everyone,
Just wondering if there was anyone out there who had to have a blood transfusion during pregnancy - I'm (and always have been) iron deficient and first 2 pregnancy's went low, but not enough for concern.
Third pregnancy - only have put on 2kgs and even though taking iron/vegies/juice everything I can think of to boost iron levels, still dropping everyday.
Was scheduled in for a blood transfusion last Monday (2 weeks before due date) but was cancelled and told that I would be getting one throughout/after labour.

Anyone with their experiences/thoughts on the matter? I'm not feeling scared, but as "Oprah" says: Knowledge is Power...

Thanks

I suffered from relatively low iron leveld during my fist pregnancy with the result that I had a 3 unit blood transfusion the day after my c-section. It was fine, just really boring cos each unit takes about 4 hours to drip via IV. Felt better afterwards and did not look like a ghost anymore.

I am having a similar problem this pregnancy, but much earlier on. My iron levels are so low that I am having an iron infusion on Friday which will take about 6 hours. I am not retaining iron at all. Que sera.

I bet you are very tired. I am exhausted all of the time.

Good luck with it.:fingerscrossed: :hugs:

Hi there and thanks - was wondering if I was a freak of nature!
I'm still due to give birth monday and blood transfusion still a maybe. Hope to have more positive results to my blood tests delivered tomorrow.
That's right about feeling tired ALL the time - I have two toddlers and some days I can't even lift them, let alone myself off the couch. Other days I seem to pick up.
I cannot retain any iron at all derived from pills, so I eat alot of dried apricots and prunes which are high in iron. One thing that many people cannot understand is the fact that yes, I do take my iron tablets but they do absolutely nothing for me. Everytime the doctor lectures me like a little child about not taking my tablets. :banghead:
Have you heard about the new oral liquid "Fergon Elixir", apparently heaps better and less bowel troubles associated with it?
Thanks for your words of wisdom, and good luck with your pregnancy.
