Help! My dd is almost 9 months old and while she has never been a great day sleeper since abuot 6 months we've been able to get her to sleep both day and night with very few tears on her part. This past week it has all gone crazy and she's been crying desperately before finally going to sleep, waking during the evening almost hysterical, and generally pretty unhappy during the day. This is such a shock as she has always been, quite liternally, the happiest baby around.

We've tried feeding her back to sleep / cuddling / patting / shushing / stroking her head / leaving her (the worst) - you name it. I suspect it's teeth but every morning nothing comes through. Dh is upstairs with her now and I can hear her desperate cries and it is breaking my heart.

I don't think I'm looking for answers (feel free to make any suggestions though) - just reassurance that this is normal and that our happy little girl will return.

Maybe she is just teething??! Have you checked out her gums to see if they are swollan. I know my DD was like this when she was teething & yes it drove me crazy too lol Big hugs to you though :hugs:

babies always go through stages of one thing or another. the teeth might not be poking through but are the gums reddish or starting to swell?? how would you feel about giving her a shot of children's panadol , just to see if it makes a difference.
hang on i have to go back and reread your message

my dd is ten months and she has had troubles going to sleep at night since we tried her on one big day sleep instead of two. we have now gone back to two sleeps and she seems a bit better.. dont know if that will help you...:o

got it.....maybe an ear infection. the ear becomes painful when they lie down if it is infected , thus explaining the desperate crying upon going to bed and it might explain her unhappy behaviour during the day. get a doctor's opinion, but don't leave it too long. the dr might not to do anything about it, but might offer you antibiotics.............

Thanks everyone. Had a terrible night (up every two hours  ) with a very unhappy little girl. We had been giving her panadol but it's not really helping so have stopped (and yes, no teeth this morning). I think she's too stuffed up in the head (I will get an opinion re the ears as well - thanks for that - she does tug them but that apparently could mean anything) to sleep but she's down now and has been for almost an hour (very rare for her). I am so glad this happened on a Saturday night and not during the week! And with mother's day this morning I got to sleep in :smiliedance: .

Just to really make my night fun one of our dogs was sick and threw up 7 times on the carpet. Welcome to parenthood!
