When did your kids become scared of the dark/shadows.

My dd, nearly 14 months has been retreating from things and shadows and i think is geeting scared of the dark/shadows in her room of a night as daylight saving has started, she goes to bed before it's completely dark now, prev was dark.

But seems to be afraid of shadows or sunlight peeking thru blinds in the house if they are shut/partially shut? She also seems to be seeing things/someone in the shadows, a few times she has even held out her hands like she wants to go to someone for a cuddle.

Am i being totally and utterly ridiculous. My dh has noticed this too, so it's not just me. Is this a stage they go through at this age?

You're not being ridiculous  My DS2 was around the same age when he used to freak out if I tried to put him to bed when it was still light outside (daylight savings last year .. I hate it). Our neighbours have palm tree's in their yard and because the sun sets behind them it cast shadows on DS2's windows that look like big scary hands/claws.. Cant blame him for being scared. I had to start putting him to bed just that little bit later until I managed to get some good block out curtains.

Another thing you can do.. which may sound silly, is to get down to his level (crawling or lying on the floor/his bed etc) and look around his room to see if any furnishing etc may be casting scary looking shadows.
