Advice for making cloth pads

Well i went to spotlight today and bought several really awesome cotton and cotton flanalette fabrics. :yelclap:

But when i asked them if they had hemp, bamboo or organic cotton i [obviously] met completely blank stares. The only thing they had was bamboo wadding (i think thats what it was called).

My question, wadding can usually bought already felted, have you ever used it for the inside of a pad? and if so, did it work or did it fail miserably?
cause i think it sounds like a good idea!

I'll probably just buy some wadding and hope it works, but i would have loved to hear if anyone else has tried it before.

you cant buy bamboo or hemp in retail stores that i know of. it has to be bought online at places like tiny toosh or snaps australia. i have never tried the wadding so i have no idea sorry.

are you planning on using something waterproof in them also. because PUL is generally used and can also be bought online.

yeah i'm going to use pul for the bottom, but for the middle absorbant bits, i got sick of cutting out lots and lots of pieces of fabric to sew over each other :rolleyes:
And since i know for a fact that spotlight sell bamboo wadding (but no other organic cotton, bamboo or hemp products unfortunately).

I could imagine that the professionally made cloth pads have some form of wadding in them tbh - i'll let you know how it turns out though! once i manage to steal the sewing machine off my mother for a day :p

I'm pretty sure wadding isn't actually designed to absorb anything..

You can give it a go though, there is no harm in trying. :)

any 100% cotton material can be used for pads, although it wont be as absorbant as bamboo. maye microfibre would work too (as long as its not right next to your skin) but would be prone to compression leaks if not combined with some bamboo. but anything that is wadding is generally not absorbant, as a rule. although being bamboo i am not too sure about that. i dont think there is wadding in cloth pads you buy. i know the ones i have had are outer materials, 2 layers of bamboo velour and a layer of PUL.
