View Full Version : The Twinnies have arrived!
I am very happy to announce that on Fri Oct 17, I went under the knife and endured a painful 45 minute session of a stranger trying to stick nastly needles into my spine all in order to meet my beautiful boys!
Lincoln John, 7lb3, Born 9:34am (http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii158/nomsie1/LincolnJohn.jpg) <link
and
Beau Marcus, 5lb12, Born 9:35am (http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii158/nomsie1/BeauMarcus.jpg) <link
The C-sec was a very positive experience. We had a few dramas at the hospital, I was forced to comp the boys a few times with formula whilst waiting for my milk to come in :crying: and Beau was found to have low blood sugar, and so was forced to be on formula for a while too.
Lincoln lost over 20% of his birth weight in the first few days also which had them worried, and on discharge I was told if he didn't put on enough weight, he would be put back in the nursery, but luckily with some help from my wonderful lactation consultant and some perserverence they are thriving. (Linc putting on 50g and Beau 30g in the last 24 hrs on BM alone :yelclap:)
Hopefully my hormones will settle down and their sleep will find a regular pattern and I will really be able to enjoy my boys and being a mummy very soon!

:crying: This is the best thread EVER!
They are soooo cute!
Good on you for continuing to breastfeed.
Is breastfeeding what you thought it would be like?
I found it a bit painful initially, but it got better.
How are you healing?
hope your doing well and have lots of support.
Enjoy your new blue bundles. :goodvibes:
:D thanks Neo, made my day!
Breastfeeding initially was very hard, because I wanted to tandem feed from the get-go. Midwives contradicted each other, and made it very hard for me, making me hold each boy so I had no hands free. But then my lac consult came in on Monday after helping me give them their fist feed on Fri, and made it so simple. She is a complete genius! :wizard:
I do find it a bit painful, but nothing I can't handle. I reckon their first feed of the morning is the hardest, nipple wise... thank god for cold packs and lanolin!!
Healing well- my scar looks like it was made years ago, just waiting for muscles to heal :)

I know what you mean, midwifes did that when I had J at the hospital to. I hope your muscles heal very fast, it must be very tender.:hugs:
Breastfeeding should also help you loose the extra baby weight and help your uterus go back to its normal size. When I was breastfeeding the weight just fell off me, but everyone is different of course.
They are so precious, I bet your feeling on top of the world right now. I am pleased you got to bring them both home quickly.
My aunt had twins six months ago, they were born by c/s and they are breastfed. She found it hard even though she breastfed her other 6 children. But after a while, her belly healed and she got positioning right it got much better for her.
I hope you have someone to give you endless water, and a good twin breastfeeding pillow, coz you'll need it!:p:laughing::D

Still working on birth story- it has been a week as of today... ahh the memories! :cloud9:
Oh Nomsie! I am so happy for you! They are beautiful!
It felt like only a couple of months ago that you told us you were pregnant!
How many weeks were they born? (I know that twins are usually a bit earlier)
WELL DONE!
I know, it does seem like not long ago I announced the pregnancy- I can remember it as clear as day!! And then announcing that it was twins! lol...
They were 37+3. So technically they were full term lol. (Well Linc was anyway, he is a big boy, but his cord was right in the middle of the placenta, and poor Beau's was off to the side poor thing, explains why he is so small...)

Congrats nomsie and well done!
Best of luck with the BFing...Have you got yourself a pillow? It makes tandem feeding sooooooooo much easier & frees up your hands so you can re latch and even burp one while the other still drinks away!
Congrats on the birth of your two boys, being a twin is very special indeed.
