Well we had our follow up appointment at the Childrens Hospital allergy clinic yesterday. We are off to see a paediatric gastroenterologist now and will be back to see the allergy Doctors in 2 months again.........still trying to establish what caused the colitis and blood in his poopy nappy.
Anyway, they now think that Max's poos are normal for being exclusively on Neocate. At the moment they are very dark, green (almost black) and just a smooth paste.........bit stinky too. Is this the norm for bubs solely on Neocate??
I've been given the go ahead to slowly try him again on some rice cereal, vegies and fruit. No wheat, dairy or soy of course. Luckily he's a really good weight (8.9 kg's at 6.5 months)...............the Doc said if he was 3 kg's lighter he would be admitting him to start all these foods but we've got a bit of chub to play around with :D
yerp them poos sounds totaly normal to come out of a neocate tushie
good luck with the food trials its getat her has some weight on him ready for the trials

After giving Max some of the probiotics in his bottles.................he slept through the entire night for 2 nights, amazing stuff!
But Monday night I gave him probably half a teaspoon of rice cereal..................all yesterday he had diarrhorea, lots of nappy changes and this morning there was a bit more mucousy blood in his poopy nappy :(
My gosh I don't know when my poor boy will be able to eat. Is this the kind of trouble you guys experienced with starting solids with your bubs?
Did you refuse vaccinations after your bubs tummy problems too? I found this quote in a book I was reading yesterday which scared the hell out of me...
"Never allow your baby to receive a vaccination if he has signs of a digestive disorder or intestinal inflammation, or if he is ill in any way, as these factors greatly increase his risk for a negative reaction with neurological damage."
He's due for his 6 months ones now. There's no way he'll be getting Rota-Teq but not sure about the others.

Oh your poor DD. Thanks for that info. Think it's prudent for us to not give him any while he's still like this.
Poor little man..........his butt is so red from all the diarhorrea he's having and he's in pain every time I change his bum :(
There was a recent study released stating that some babies/people can actually be allergic to rice (cereal), so this might be worth investigating.
We haven't had any issues/reactions with imms or the rotavirus vaccine for DS2. It might be worth calling the State immunisation centre for more info.
We've only just started on Neocate after battling away on soy for nearly 6 months, but he had firm green stools when he was on dairy for the first couple of weeks. We haven't had him tested yet, but I'm pretty sure he has both dairy and soy protein allergies. Poos were ok on soy but better on neocate.

Yep vax's for us stopped after his first lot & I just refused with the way he reacted to take him back.
The Paed we are now seeing is lovely & he got us into hospital to trial them when G was around 10mths. All went well from what we could see for those first few hours so we went home happy thinking he had outgrown enough of his gut issues.
At 11pm everything went pear shaped with him crying non stop & seriously I mean non-stop till 5am when he actually passed out from being so tired. He then slept till 9am & was crying heaps, clingy, sore & had some slight hives but then the poo started ... Auuugh !
So nope no more vax's here till im comfortable enough with him being ready to cope with them.

Thanks guys.
sarahg - Yeah I understand rice cereal still has a protein in it that he may have reacted to. His skin prick and patch testing for dairy & soy came back negative but if he has the IgA reaction (gut allergy) then apparently there's no real testing for this. Also my GP suggested he may possibly have that eosinophiliac oesophagitis disorder but more in his intestine.
My GP was extremely happy for us not to vacc him and promptly gave me my CO form. I've even spoken to my childcare centre about it and they totally understand and just photocopied my book showing he'd had the 2 mth and 4 mth ones.
But how's this..............Max (on top of all his belly dramas already) now has gastro, and which to me looks like rotavirus (offensive & yellow). So OK he only had 2 of the 3 doses of the vaccine but it didn't work anyway  and now my whole family is home with it today. I know vaccines aren't 100% effective but :hair:

He's 7 months old. I took him to the ED yesterday worried about the effect it will have on top of all his existing problems. We tried to get some Gastolyte into him there but he didn't want a bar of it so am just sticking with small amounts of Neocate for now............I've had about 8 Neocate showers over the past couple of days
They were happy that he was well hydrated enough.............so I'm just keeping a close eye on him
