I think 3 months is a bit young to be starting solids. His stomach won't handle it very well.
It's hard to remember but at that age I was easily giving Chloe 6 to 7 bottles a day, including one at night, which would work out to every 3 hours or so. But I think they were only 180 ml. All bubs are different though and all go through growth spurts so maybe he'll settle down to longer feed intervals in a week or two.
I've heard rumours, nothing I'd want to say for certain, that some formulas are "heavier" than others. One CHN commented that the SMA I was using was an older "heavier" formula that they generally only recommend for bubs that aren't being satisfied on the newer ones like S26 (same company makes them actually). So maybe you could talk to your CHN or phone a local help line and ask them whether a different formula would be different? Like I said, I'm not sure that what I was told is actually true.
The only other thing I can think of is to double check how you're making your formula. Too light and he'll be hungry. Too much formula powder and he'll end up thirsty.

I had exactly the same problem with the feeds. I ended up asking the pediatrition for their advice and I think it was golden.
Every child is different and will let you know when they want more or have had enough.
I have been feeding Jayden solids from 11 weeks as he was able to sit in a slightly reclined position and able to hold his head. The doctor said with his age keep it simple. He had S26 formula (on the recommendation of both the doctors and nurses) and he is thriving on it with the solids. We started with plain rice cereal, then added a little apple pureed. He also had plain mashed potato and pumpkin. He started with only four to five spoons a feed.
He is now a very very healthy and happy 6 month old. His diet now contains toast and vegie, potato, pumpkin, zucchini, spinach, pear, apple and an array of custards. He loves his food. He still has his bottles obviously but is just a baby that feels full and happy with solid food in his tummy. He is happyily crawling and doing really well for his age.
The other thing is from when he was started on solids he slept much better and throughout the whole night and has done ever since. Our GP told us that it was because of the happy "full" feeling that he settled so much better.
Good luck .. Just remember every bub is different.
Have you tried S-26 AR? The one for reflux bubs? My bub doesn't have reflux as such, but has always been quite a "posit" baby and so I started mixing half / half normal S-26 with the S-26 AR......it's certainly settled down the constant positing (which she always did BTW - even when breastfed) and seems to fill her up more too.
I too would probably be quite hesitant about starting solids before 4 months. Are you sure it's actually hunger? He's not just a baby who loves to suck? I have a friend who's baby sucks continually and she uses a dummy (despite her being quite anti-dummy before the birth) as her little bub just loves to suck ALL the time.

hey tannie, yeah he does have a dummy and we thought that was the problem but he just spits i, and doesnt seem to want it, against what everyone said we did try him on solids last nite, he had about 2 teaspoons of farex and amazingly enough he slept for 11 hrs :D. i spoke to my doctor late yesterday afternoon and he said just give it a go , he may just need it , so i felt a little better about doing it, i know i feel a whole lot better this mornign after having a good nite sleep . it is amazing how much difference it makes, isaiah my 7 yr old woke up this mornign and said, "mum and dad , u r in better moods this morning i like it better " so i think we gonna continue on with farex every nite , thanx all for ur help and advice :D
