My hubby and I are planning on TTC again when he gets home in just over 2 months. My doctor recommended taking folate for 3 months before TTC. So I've began taking Vitex and folate to get my body back into baby making condition.
Just wondering who else takes vitamins before TTC? If so what do you take?

I've been taking a pregnancy multivitamin for close to a year off and on, since have been trying that long (off and on). It's mainly for the folic acid.
I've been taking folic acid for months. I started about 6 months before I went off the Pill, 'just in case' :)
My GP said I shouldn't take Vitamin E cause it can harm the baby, and I've noticed Vitamin E in a lot of pregnancy multivitamins, so I just stick to the folic acid and a balanced diet with plenty of red meat to keep my iron levels up.
Ally I know I just had a baby lol, but you know we're hoping for another soon..I have been taking elevit during my whole preg and will continue too I think it's probably one of the best vitamins out there. Has a bit of everything :) good luck for when Grant gets home ohh I am excited you'll be here soon!!:smiliedance:

i took practitioner only supplements from four months prior to conceiving and still continue to take now whilst bf. they are called natural fertilty and are available thru a naturopath which included:
+multi vit
+multi mineral
+calcium/magnesium
+vit c
+liver support
+oil (mix of fish and epo and vit e)
+ zinc and selenium
there are a lot to take, but bubs is well and so am i. that being said any multi with added folate is really good and better than not taking anything IMO.
mim1, not wanting to contradict your doc, but i have studied nutrition and vit e is perfectly safe to take pre and during pregnancy. there is another fat soluble vitamin, vitamin a, which can cause birth defects in utero at high doses, ie well over 10,000iu a day - perhaps this is what they meant?

I started taking folate three months before I started TTC. It took me nine months to get pregnant, so I ended up taking folate for one year! When I was pg, I switched to Elevit, which I plan to keep taking until I stop breastfeeding. I think next time I am TTC, I will just go straight onto the Elevit. The only thing I hate about them is that they are too chunky to swallow!!! There's definitely an art to taking those big horse tablets!!

Defiently! When you figure out how let me know, I have to cut them in half! :o
I started taking Elevit when we were TTC aswell!
Im currently taking Folic Acid, Omega 3 fish oil & Blackmores Pregnancy & Breastfeeding multi vitamin, however im thinking of switching to Elevit when this bottle runs out. The Elevit seems to have more per capsual than the blackmores, but then agai its also double the price.
Good luck TTC

Elevit sounds quite popular - I have seen it advertised but when I saw the $$ I figured I may as well spend that on Vitex and Folate!
Has anyone noticed a difference in their cycle/cm while on Elevit in comparison to stock-standard folate?

Hi Ally, It's hard and quiet personel trying to find the right vitamin isn't it? It's like trying to find the right pill, which is a bit like finding a needle in the haystack and everyone likes to recommend theirs etc...but thats what we do, we ask around and try a few to come up with one that will work for us.
This is where I am at too; currently I take folic acid but as far as a pregnancy vitamin I haven't being, but I should as I am testing this week.
I have being having alot of probelms with - mood swings, pregnancy hormones crying, etc and a friend of mine suggested FABFOL I have checked it out and seems to have everything you would need and that includes 550mg folic acid! so no need to buy seperate vits!!
The only thing I would be likely to supplement with is Omega 3's as they are so good for growing babies.

I took Elevit through my pregnancy and while (still) breastfeeding at the recommendation of both my Gyno and GP. Also took FGF for folate. My GP did blood tests to check all vitamin levels, as she said that my b12 level needed to increase before beginning the folate. So, a trip to the GP for a check can be a good idea. Then took fgf for one month prior to trying to concieve and until 12 weeks after. Gyno also asked me to take fgf again in third trimester, to aid in general energy levels more than anything I think.
I was sick several times when bub was about 5months, a bit run down, and upped the Elevit to two (instruction of GP). Still taking two (on the days I remember!) and haven't been sick since.
The most cost effective way to buy Elevit is in the boxes of 100, much better price than boxes of 30.
