Who did you register your domain with?

I'm after a company, prefer australian to set up a website. I'm after a .com.au as the name that I am after with just .com is taken.

I did a quick google and came up with austdomains are they any good????

I would either go with your host, or surf around for a cheap option. Before you sign up for the domain do a google and see if you can find any reviews of the domain hosts.

If you are making a company, make sure the company name isn't taken. Also make sure the .com place isn't actually an aussie store cos if it is you may have issues if you register the .com.au

I have 6 domains all registered by MD webhosting (http://www.mdwebhosting.com.au/myaccount/aff.php?aff=429). I also have hosting with them and they are melbourne based and real fast to answer questions.

I recently switched from MD because I had several issues in a row that made it incredibly difficult to build my new site.
I wouldn't recommend them anymore myself because their plans have changed and aren't as good as they once were. There are plenty of hosts which can offer better deals.

I have heard lots of bad things about MD hosting on many website building forums.. Their packages look great for Australia, but so many people complain.

I registered my domain with Net Registry... They're competitive with their prices, quite cheap, come highly recommended, and I haven't had a single problem :) I'm hosting my site with spirit connect... They have really good deals for an Australian based server. Try to steer clear of over seas servers, because if theres a problem and you need to speak on the phone, it ends up being costly.

Net Registry are a reputable company.

Just make sure when you register a domain that the company registers it in YOUR name not their company name. Read the T&Cs.
MD registered my tinysouls domain under their name the dodgy bastages. It made transferring it a little harder, thankfully the new host guy pulled some strings and got it released.
So very dodgy of them.

Oh and don't sign up with anyone like Vistaprint. Major dodgy.
