Is it legal to have hemp seeds in Australia?
Can I buy them from the shops or anything (health food shops for example)?
I am watching a video on you tube by Shazzie about raw food and she is using hemp leaves and seeds in her raw recipes and I was wondering if I am allowed to eat raw hemp seeds in Australia.
She is making really yummy looking food and I want to make the chocolate she is making.
I can buy her chocolate bars online (I think they have hemp in them) but making them myself would work out cheaper.
I don't think it is legal which is to bad really. But I thought I would ask here to be 100% sure.:)
ETA what about powered hemp leaf?
my guess would be .. if you can BUY it .. its legal .. (from a shop .. that is .. not from a bloke in an allyway..) ..
google it  if there is a decent place that has it listed .. it should be fine ..
what health benefits does it offer neo? why would those leaves be better than other leaves? is it worth the effort?
xx

Yeah, well hemp seeds, leaves and oil (used the right way in food, and the oil is good for your skin) is very beneficial, it is considered a super food.
Go to you tube and type in "super foods are real" by shazzie and see the recipe I want to make. (I want to make the chocolate).
If it is not allowed I will ask her for ideas of what to use in place of it.

 I would NEVER buy it from a bloke in the allyway!! I am not actually sure if I can get it from health food shops, I know I can get hemp washes and stuff but I have not asked about using it for raw food.

well i assumed buying from someone in the alleyway means you would be buying marijuana and not hemp. hemp is different isnt it...well thats my understanding, thats why you can buy hemp fabrics. i am pretty sure that its a different thing. i know in sydney there used to be a kind of hippy shop where you could buy those kind of things. and i have forgotten the name but there are shops online that you can buy that stuff from.
if you do a google search then there are a few stores that come up http://www.google.com.au/search?client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-US%3Aofficial&channel=s&hl=en&q=hemp++seed+oil&meta=cr%3DcountryAU&btnG=Google+Search

You must be able to get them somewhere, in Bundaberg there is some trial plantations growing and hopefully it will one day faze out the sugar growing, every single part of the hemp plant is usable down to the roots.
Hemp is different than marijuana, hemp contains no THC which is the thing that gives you the buzz when smoking marijuana. Actually if you plant a marijuana plant in a hemp crop, it also wont produce the THC needed to give the high!
You may have to have some kind of license or something, honestly i am unsure...because you certainly wouldn't want yr neighbors calling the police in for just hemp which of course they will mistake for marijuana.
Do some research, just to see what the go is!

Thank you!
I really like the idea of using hemp for food and possibly other things like oil if I know how. It is easy to grow and eco friendly and it has other good properties to it. I really like that I can use the whole thing, and Shazzie considers it a super food.
Though I would hope it is legal in Australia. I will look in to it more when I can actually get more time on the internet. Any information would be much appreciated. :)

I'll add in that hemp is a little different to marijuana. :)
Though looking back I see it has been said! Okay then, That's me done!
The only places I can suggest trying to get it from besides health food stores is
happy high herbs Vally , West End , Southport & Surfers Paradise have stores
And possibly off your tree in queen street

Thank you everyone.
Money will be tight around Xmas, but I really want to make raw chocolate and serve it for Xmas lunch/dinner etc with family.
The chocolate is dairy AND gluten free!! :D
So I can actualy eat it, plus it is raw so more nutrient rich.
