Okay, kind of a touchy subject with me just because it's a little embarressing. My DD keeps playing with her 'bits'. You know what I mean. Every time I bath her or change her nappy i can't keep her hands away. Now she's started doing it when we are out. I can't let her wear dresses.I put pants on her and she'l sit in her pram trying to put her hands in her nappy. Women in the shops have actually pulled me up on it! I trim her nails so she doesn't scratch herself, but apart from that I just don't know what to do about it. Is it normal??

I know they must just want to explore and stuff like that, but this is all the time, constantly.

What do I do?? At the moment I just remove her hand and try and give her something to play with. It doesn't seem to be working. She doesn't seem to be in any discomfort so that rules out mediacl reasons.

Is this normal??

Hi! My DD is facinated by her 'bits' too! She only really notices it when Im changing her nappy or when she's having nappy-free time. Cant say she's ever felt the need to have a look or whatever in public thank goodness! :o
When she is playing with herself I tend to just play it down if you know what I mean. Like I'll say yes Brianna has a * and Brianna has an arm, and a leg. Just try to focus her attention on her other body parts without making her feel naughty or without making a big deal of it. They are naturally curious.
Very interested to hear what everyone else has to say about it.

I wouldn't worry shes young and that is how they learn about their bodies. If you want something to make you laugh. My four year old a while back was doing the food shopping with me and then he say " look mum my willies sticking out":o:rolleyes: Omg i told him to quickly stick it back in his pants. he had never done it before that and hasnt since. I hope no one sore him:laughing:. It was so embarassing but funny aswell

My youngest is fascinated in what hes got aswell but not just his i mean my oldest was dressing himself and had put his jocks on anyway his willy hanged out the edge for a sec and my youngest sore it and was about to try and grab it. Lucky i noticed and got him to put it in his jocks correctly. We all couldnt stop laughing though:laughing:

How dare strangers say anything - like I don't say anything when men have a good scratch or fix down there! Some people!!

I think it's a normal development thing - I too was concerned at first with my first baby but DH just said she was exploring herself. Now I don't worry so much - I still don't like it though!

Hey Natasha, dont worry, its normal :)
Some little ones just do it more than others. Matilda does it whenever her nappy is off as well, or in the bath etc, just dont make an issue of it and when she gets older you cant start to gently explain to her when she can and cant do it. in the meantime you could try those one piece body suit things under her dresses and stuff, this will stop her from being able to get into her nappy when you are out in public, or you dont want the nappy to come off (thats another problem when they start doing this, the nappy ends up half off and they wee everywhere!!! ) .

oh, and LOL at DM!!!

Hey Parisa, I picked that tip up with my oldest son, he always had his hands down there and it was a nightmare when I was at the shops and stuff because he was constantly pulling his penis out and then peeing all over his clothes!!! :o :p
