View Full Version : What sort of potty is best?
My nearly 3y.o. son is showing a lot of signs that he's getting ready for toilet training: lets me know when he's nappy's wet or soiled and wants me to change it asap, pulls down his own pants to help the process.
But when I try and get him to sit on the potty (a little all in one thing) he throws a tantrum. His 15 months old sister loves the little potty and performs on it regulary. So I got a little toilet seat to affix to the big toilet with a stool. He hates that too.
I've seen the potties that are a little bigger than the basic types: the ones which are like a little seat with the container that fits underneath. But before spending the money on one, can anyone give me some tips or recommendations as to whether this might be the answer?

mu nearly three year old had a seat on the toilet the only thing you can do is go out and buy one either on top or under seat. Under seats are fine for little boys as the have more room to direct or a cushie tooshie for on top is good too. Get them their own toilet paper let them know if they do it in the toilet they get a treat. Have a go

I've just bought our first potty - one of the seat ones with a removable container underneath. I bought it second hand from a good shop, which is a little gross if you think about it, but it's been cleaned so why not? Chloe loves sitting on it, she treats it like a chair and we don't push that she's supposed to pee there or even have her undressed half the time. I have noticed though that it obviously hurts her bum a bit if she sits there long, so padding the seat might be a good idea.
You might try finding a game or toy that he only gets to play with on the potty. Rewards of course. And maybe try moving the potty to a different place - maybe he just doesn't like or is scared of something in the bathroom? I'm embarrassed to say that our potty is in an out of the way corner of our kitchen as our toilet is too small and too cold.
