View Full Version : Cost and rebates
Hi everyone,
I was wondering if anyone could tell me the approx costs per IVF attempt and whether there is any rebate? We want to start but we are trying to save some money first.
Thanks Bec

Bec,
It depends on which clinic you use. Some require you to pay it all up front and then you claim some back from Medibank on a standard Stim cycle you are usually about 1600- 1800 out of pocket but once you reach the medicare threshold you get more back. Do you know what clinic you are looking into many of them have pricelist on there website...if not have a look at MIVF they have there costs on theres of course it depends on what treatment you need.

Thanks we would be going to the Queensland Fertility Group, so I'll have a look at there costings but I didn't know if it would include rebates.

Bec...Welcome...I'm on day 5 of Puregon injections hoping for and EPU sometime next week. We have to do ICSI due to DH sperm count etc so our out of pocket expenses for this cycle will be around the $2500 mark...I'm not sure how much of this I will get back from Medicare. I can let you know once I know. But like Bekkles said just ring the clinic you are planning to use and they can give you an estimate.
Good luck

Hi Bec,
You can get a pricelist from any of the IVF Clinics, however depending on your situation and what treatment will be advised and what drugs you have to take, will depend on how much the whole deal will cost you...
I had to pay over $3,500 for my current cycle plus private health insurance excess.
And there were other initial costs too, but most of that was claimable.... I will be about $2,500 out of pocket in the end (approx)
Hope this helps....
And good luck!

IVFMummy... I was just reading that you have private health insurance and were still out of pocket 2500 dollars. How much did your insurance pay? Sorry about being intrusive, but who is your insurance with? I'm with Medibank Private and they told me that I am covered for IVF but I need to get a breakdown of what procedures I will need to find out how much. I'm a bit shocked now because I assumed I wouldn't be out of pocket very much.

Believer...I too have private health insurance and will still be out of pocket $2500...Should get some of this back from Medicare and that depends on whether or not you reach your safety net or not. Your health insurance should cover you for your hospital stay not your doctor or treatment. If you have extras you may be able to claim some of your medications back. I hope this helps...Check it out with your health insurance company.

Hi Bec
I am also on Medibank Private, but have no hospital excess. My total out of pocket expenses - for the entire IVF cycle - came to less than $800. But someone has told me that Tassie has the least expensive treatment in Oz - not sure if this is true but judging by what I've read here I can believe it!
Read with interest you can claim for the Synarel - thanks, will do that.
Hope that helps and good luck.

Hi there...
Can't claim anything yet.... have to wait for cycle to be complete (that is when you have your pg test)
I did however claim the Synarel spray and out of $108 I was only about to get back $21.90
Will find out what else is claimable in a few weeks, etc.....

I'm with MBP too and found they paid very little about $40 per cycle, but did cover bed costs and aneastist. I found with the main IVF groups in Melbourne one is alot more expensive than the other

Hi Beckkles,
Yes MBP don't pay out very much, do they?
I have been with them for years... but finding them to be a major rip off!
Can't change insurance companies at this stage, but will look into it for the future....

BecH - QFG are excellent!!! who is your Dr?
My Dr was De Ambrosis, he had the highest success rate .. the staff are lovely. I plan on going back to him if we need assistance again. We did AI ( IUI ) though .. IVF was our plan if that didn't work. I reached the threshold with Medicare that year and got alot back , I did get some back MBP as well .. you will find Medicare cover majority of rebates. Goodluck.
