I accidentally put a huggies swim nappy through the washing machine today and it came out fine. It would have been fine to hang out on the line and reuse too had I not have ripped it off.

Next time I will not be ripping it off so I can reuse it!

Speedo make a washable swim nappy too. Probably costs about what I imagine a packet of disposable swim nappies do

Yrp i always reuse them! My sister told me years ago they where reusable, the man who ran their local swimming pool told her because they actually sold the nappies for kids to use!

Yeah I got told last summer that instead of throwing the huggies swimmers away, wash them and hang them out to dry.
Was told they would only last 3-4 washes.
But its still quite handy to now that though and you are saving a few dollars.

A woman at my mother's group also told me this.
I brought one packet when DD was 6 months old and we are still using that same packet and she is now 18 months old!!(she goes swimming once a week)
I could never not reuse them now,my DH thinks I'm tight lol.

I found they arent a very good nappy in general though- I had to use one when I ran out of normal sposies the other day, dd done a number 1 & 2 and it went EVERYWHERE... ew.. might be ok with just being wet though I guess.

Yep! 1 packet lasts us for over a year of weekly swimming lessons ;).

If you wash them in a delicates bag they seem to last for ever. They may not look perfect after multiple washes but the children wore them under a swim suit so who would know?. I'm always a little shocked when I see people just ripping them off.

why not just buy a reusable cloth swim nappy?
rather than spend a fortune on those?

excellent question.

I'm a cloth user but have never found a cloth swim nappy that fit well on my long and skinny children. I found the under leg gape and saggy waist of the cloth defeated the purpose of containment in water. I actually found the huggies ones to be trim, narrow, firm around the leg and lasting just as long as what a reusable would. It was also a much cheaper option when a packet lasts for a whole year. :o

I've not had any luck with the standard type cloth swim nappy with my long and slim boy either, but LOVE my splash about swim nappy. There is no way anything is escaping!!! I haven't used it at the beach yet but think it willl be excellent at keeping sand out as well.

Also you could use a pocket nappy without any stuffing for a swim nappy, I've not tried this but could see it would work really well.

Cloth nappies are the way to go!!! Remember each disposable takes a small tree branch and a cup of oil to make, and 500 years to break down, and each child needs around 5000 from birth to toilet trained.

 i can just picture it now, not nice :barf:

but they arent good as a nappy, they dont absorb like nappies do, they more contain IYKWIM. if they were to absorb they would absorb the pool water giving bub a heavy load to swim around with and one hell of a big butt :p

One time i accidently put a normal huggies nappy in the wash. All of the inside was washed out and wouldve been perfect for a swim nappy or stuffed with sum boosters to be reused as a normal nappy but never really got into that as i mainly use cloth for day and i sposie for night.
