View Full Version : Wanted: new best friend

I am sick of feeling lonely and friendless.
I am a 30-ish mum of one in the outer South-eastern suburbs. My hubby works long hours, and my closest friend lives 3 hours drive away and we only speak about once a month. I have coped the best i can these last 10 months, but i need things to change!
Previous to my pregnancy my friends were either work collegues or childless old school friends, neither of whom i have anything in common with anymore.
I meet with a couple of other local mums in my area about every fortnight or so. Our mums group started off with about 10 but has quickly dwindled to around 3 or 4 regulars. We get along ok, meet for coffee and discuss our babies. Its all very polite and a little bit stilted. None of us see each other outside our mums group meetings. I don't have any close friends anymore and i really miss that.
So this is what i need:
I need a new "bestie" that i can call and chat to after the baby is in bed. Someone i can "vent" to when i need to and who can likewise chat/b!tch/vent to me. Someone who will drop by unannounced just to hang out together. Someone i can have a good laugh with.
I am a bit wary of posting too many details on an open forum like this, so if you are at all interested, please message me to get the conversation started and see where it takes us.

What a lovely post :)
I live in Narre Warren and also could really use some friends *sigh* seems weird to be 29 years old with no friends, but alas here I am. I'm getting to know some of the school mums, but it's a long was off calling them "friends" just yet.
I have a 6yo daughter who has been my world and sole focus until now, however i'm now ready to start finding out who *I* am.
Hope you can find someone :)
I know how u feel tho I need friends lol but no one seems to live here *sigh*

I no how u feel my hubby also works long hours and the only real day we spend together is sunday.
I have a close friend and she has no kids.
I also am a bit wary of people at start til i get to no them and shy
But id like sommone to chat to, or met up with for a coffee.
sometimes u just feel so alone

:iagree::iagree: I"m the same way :hugs:
hi ladies..
a big "I AGREE" to all the above
i know soclucky and nikki and can vouch for them being awesome! I'd love a 'bestie' too.. esp someone near my area (wantirna south). Someone as clutterbug said I can 'drop in on' or call anytime, someone who doesn't care if I'm in my PJ's at 3pm or that I haven't vaccumed when they come over, someone that when i want to have a party i know that they will turn up. - I am a bit cr@p at keeping in touch, but even if you don't hear from me for a while or vice versa, if you are my friend, you always will be. I moved to Perth about 6 years ago and have been back for 3, but whn I moved I seemed to have lost most of my friends in the time I was there (or as you say the VERY few I have are childless and at a different time in their lives that I am) I always thought i'd make friends when DD went to scholl but if just never happened... gosh, this is turning into a sob story about me huh?
PM me if you'd like clutterbug :) (or anyone else)
oh and clucky and nikki (I only mention just you 2 as I've actually met you) I really like you both.. I don't know if I am a bit too full on for you or if you chicks like me too (gosh, this feels like high school again LOL) but if either of you would ever like to catch up or chat on the phone I'd love it! :)

Jo your so cool, not full on at all. I pm'd Nikki also, if you wanna catch up or take our babies to something that would be great.
I just get a bit scared sometimes my little one might not fit in or stuff when she's older because i did'nt take her to classes or playgroups when she was young because i get worried no one likes me.
Hope that makes sense.

I'd love that! Perhaps clutterbug if you are in the area you might like to come too! :) I'd love to get to know you better Narelle, I just know there is a real livewire hiding under your shy outer shell
oh, and don't worry about the playgroup thing.. I never did that with DD.. but she turned out fine (well, mostly ;)) - I also worried that no-one liked me, hence why I didn't even turn up for my own b'day thingy! LOL... don't let my outward confidence put you off.. I'm as shy as you can get under it all. perhaps smaller groups suit you better?
Im the same as so cluckly i want Taylah to socialise with the little ones and she loves it besides from the mess she makes lol...
Jag u are so lovely and u dont seem shy your a very easy goin person
I tried a playgroup around the corner from me and i felt like a outkast some had been goin there since there baby was born so i didnt go back

I'd like some friends too. Well I have friends but we're not really close. I go to playgroup but the mums there are all alot older than me and I don't feel like I fit in. I have thought about going to another one where the mums are more my age but I might wait until next year when Hayley starts kinder.
I am shy and I often think people don't like me or they think I'm a snob or something. It sucks.
hi, im michelle and i have a lil boy who 18 months old and ive been wanting to find other babies his age to play with and mums that i can get to know and stuff like wat has already been said....... i live in nunawading not sure where everyone else is. :)

Clutterbug that is the cutest OP I have ever seen in my life .
I remember being lonely when the kids were smaller ..........Hmmm in fact i'm lonely now too be honest, I dont' have anybody to sit and talk to as a friend . I have lots of people to talk to in daily life but none to just sit and vent with or have a glass of wine and sit in the sun watching kids play. I'm a little more east than you (country ) but I'm happy to befriend anybody that wants to befriend me.:D:D:D

LOL that is exactly what this feels like!
I am really shy too and a little insecure (aren't we all?) I haven't been on here since i posted that the other day coz i was feeling really self-concious about being so open and sounding a bit desperate!! So thank you to all of you for letting me know i'm not alone in this!! Its way more common than i realised.
To all the local girls with offers to meet up, I will PM you all soon. Maybe a few of us should meet for coffee somewhere and get chatting.
