Look into something called a nipplette from Avent.

The idea is that it uses gentle suction to pull your nipple out. Some people also believe that if you start using it in pregnancy and continue.. That the effects will be long-lasting and you won't have to use it for too long. :)

I heard that expressing can help with that? I'm sorry I can't help much more than that but just wanted to wish you good luck.

Try the ABA - they're awesome and helped me SO much through all my troubles.

I have one flat nipple and one non flatty, and i ahve been going for 14.5 weeks. I found that expressing does help it come out.

Maybe you could call a counsellor from the ABA - www.breastfeeding.asn.au (http://www.breastfeeding.asn.au)
You don't have to be a member to call - it's open to anyone! That might be helpful, or they can at least point you in the right direction.

Best of luck to you and congrats on the pregnancy!

I had one slightly inverted nipple when DS was born. In the first few days it was difficult to get him to attach properly. I had to experiment with positions a bit and found that the football hold worked best. I still got blisters on that side, but I just persevered and after about 2 weeks my nipple was no longer inverted and attachment was easy.

I second the advice of the other ladies regarding consulting an ABA counsellor too.

I'm glad you took up the offer of the Nipplette.

I hope that helps you.

I also have similar "flatish" ones that caused some attachment troubles - but I wanted to continue BF, so for me the nipple shields worked. I used them right from the start and for 6 whole months then just stopped one day - I think DS had grown enough by then to open his mouth wider to get the attachment right then I fed him to 13 months without them. It was a bit annoying to need such a tool, but it allowed me to BF. I did not have any supply issues from using them, or any other problems either.

You should ask to see a LC - in hopsy - or a home visit (if homebirth) when you have your bubs and ask them to show you how to use them and see what other tips they have for you.
