Where do your kids sit in the car now that you have two car seats? (or when you only had two car seats)

I'm not keen on having one on each side, is it okay to have one in the middle and one on the side? Who's best to go in the middle?

we started off with bub in the middle and DS1 on the side, but DS1 was too rough with bub, so now there is one on each side... much easier to access and bubs safe from pinching hands!

You could debate all day which is the safest place in the car but in the end a car can get hit from any direction so making sure bubs is safely secured and in a good car seat is all that matters oh and in the back of course. I have mine on either side atm as it is better on my back and when bubs seat is in the middle it tends to slant as dd1s seat pushes against it and that in the back of a pajero. When I have 3 kids then I will have the child who can get out by themselves in the middle.

We have thought about this too, at the moment we have the car seat reversed in the middle and DS on the side. All great in theory but it may change if DS is too rough with the baby by his side, so it may change to the side.

We have put Charlie in the middle for the time being. When his car seat getgs turned around we may consider putting it on the side. We have William on the safety door side as he likes to get in and out by himself.

We had one on each side in the old car, as the maxi-rider is so wide that they wouldn't fit next to each other.

Now we have a bigger car, they are side-by-side. My eldest is in the middle, as she can climb into her seat herself, and put her arms in the seat-belt, i just have to get the twists out and strap her in. DS is 13kg and just the thought of lifting him to the middle (esp as i get further along in this pregnancy) hurts my back, let alone actually doing it.

ETA DS is in the rear passenger side

We have a Patrol so we don't have a choice they have to go by the windows. I just put DD's booster on the drivers side yesterday but it dosent really matter for us at the moment as she has no hope of getting in or out of either the seat or the car on her own anyway  Will reconsider when she is finally big enough to get in on her own.

I put Estella on the drivers side and Patrick on the passenger side. So Estella can always clamber out if I am parked by the side of the road, Mr P needed some help.

Estella also liked to touch and bother her baby brother, and he was in a turn a tot - which of course you cant turn if you have it squished up next to another seat so whats the point of that!

In a perfect world you could portect both of them equally, if you are worried abut safety (and getting to the bub and seeing the bub) then put bub in the middle.

When I had two carseats, I had them both in the window seats. I had the younger on the passenger side, so I could see him.

Now I have 3 and there isn't much choice! DD1 is in the middle because she can get in and out easier, and is less likely to harrass DD2 and hopefully will help keep her entertained in the future. DD2 is on the passenger side, so I can see her, and DS is on the the drivers side.

I hate how close their seats are to the window, but there isn't much option now that we have 3

They are all in correctly installed carseats appropriate for their weight and height, and that is the best I can do.

Similar situation here too. We started out with Sarah in the middle and Becky on the left hand side as it was easier for Sarah to climb into the middle of the car than for me to try and lift a newborn in and out. That meant Kormos had the right hand seat behind the driver.

But soon it just became easier for them each to have a window seat - with the dog perched in between them. Poor thing, on one side he has Becky playing with his fur and Sarah on the other side yelling at him to "SIT DOWN".

I was only asking my mum about this the other day!

I was originally thinking of putting DS in the middle and bubs on the outter side.

But now it will definitely be one on either side of the car. To me it is much safer for bubs this way. DS won't be able to try put things in bubs mouth, or pinch him or hurt him, or throw a toy in there and smother him etc. DS is a very affectionate "little mummy" sort of kid.... so I can only imagine what he'll be like a little bit older... and to his own brother! :dizzy:

I think bubs might have a slightly longer life if I put an empty seat inbetween them!

ours will be by the windows because i don't trust Harper not to harrass the baby!

 my main reason for asking is because I frequently have my no-licence-no-car-no-boyfriend Sister in the car with me... I don't know that she'd squish too well between seats (mind you, my backside squished fine in faeml's car ) although the husband says "Tell her to get her licence and get her own car." valid point.

I was thinking of having Cobes on the outside, but logical points here suggest that if a seat was to remain in the middle it's better off his so I'm not leaning over everything to get to the weeny-one.

Hmm
Thanks for that!

I think it depends more on how your toddler will be with a newborn. I thought it was safest to have one in the middle and one on the side, but on the way home we quickly learned this wasn't the best option. He harassed her constantly, so we had to change it to one on each side. Cobey will be a year older than what my DS was when the second child came, so maybe he'll be a bit better.

If you put them next to each other, I put the newborn on the outside. I felt like that was safer as it was easier to get the little one out and they also have more side protection than toddler seats.
