I don't quite know how to word this so I hope I make sense.
After BD, I have always jumped up and run for the loo before everything 'leaked' IYKWIM. But earlier I had the thought that perhaps this could be contributing to the frustrating delay in conceiving. DS1 was not planned at all so I feel completely clueless in this department.
I guess the question I'm asking is that when you go to the loo or have a shower or whatever after BD and the semen comes out, is that the sperm coming out too or is the semen just the 'vehicle' to carry the sperm into the uterus, in which case the sperm has left the semen already and swimming their hearts out inside while the semen vacates the premises?
I feel so stupid asking and that I should already know the answer to it :o
TIA

I'll leave your queries to the experts, just had to pop in and laugh at this part with you:

 Good work.
I'm sure you'll get plenty replies soon.
Hi!
I always did the same thing by running to the loo after sex, I always thought this was the hygenic thing to do! After 9 months after TTC I heard that you should stay in the position that you ahem *finish* in for about 20 minutes (maybe don't do any tantric style positions!) then I put my legs up against our bedroom wall! I thought it wouldn't hurt to try and it worked first go! Not sure which one thing worked but I will be doing it next time!

:iagree: :o
yep.. first go too! LOL
btw - to help answer your question. There is sperm in all semen, including the stuff that 'leaks out'.. but seeing as there is about 40 million sperm in each 1ml drop of semen even if you ran to the bathroom right away there will still be plenty inside swimming their little hearts out  but if you are TTC you may as well give the little guys a better chance and keep your legs up as moops said. But really it probably doesn't matter because, as we all know, it only takes one of those little guys to get to the eggie :D
Hi Tasma.
They say it's best to keep on your back, or on your side with your legs curled up to your chest for about 20 mins afterwards. Some people put a pillow under their bum as well. I did this and sometimes found nothing came out. This month I kept my legs up in the air and we got our BFP!
I was also told that any thing that comes out after 30 mins, Is dead or deformed spermies as well. So you don't really want them in there anyway.
Good luck!

Well last time I stayed on my side/tummy with my legs clamped shut for maybe 15 minutes or so. Hopefully that'll help things along.
Thanks for answering the question and not making me feel like a loony :)
Maybe you could answer another question for me though - according to my ovulation calculator, I should have ovulated on Thursday. If we BD'd Sunday night and Thursday night, do you think we missed the window?

STAY IN BED!! Try to BD when you go to bed at night so you can stay there and not move till morning. This is what I've been doing. I make sure I go to the toilet and pee before we BD, so I dont have to get up during the night. Also, afterwards keep a pillow under your bum to keep it elevated for at least 30 minutes to encourage them to stay where they're supposed to stay. I'm pretty sure this is what helped me get a BFP last month (unfortunately I got my period just before week 5 :(, so we'll be trying again in the next month or two - we've decided to have a break for this month). Good luck and hope it works for you:fingerscrossed:

I have been doing the staying in bed thing after BD to minimise leakage but have ended up with a really bad infection and I'm convinced that this is the cause. I've never had an infection in the 'downstairs department' before in my life. If BD was in the morning I would get up 30 minutes later and have a shower, but if it was at night I would just go to sleep and not bathe till the morning. Considering this infection is quite bad and painful I'm now reluctant to do this again which sucks.

I honestly dont think it would make much difference whether you lay down or not!
