View Full Version : Lasinoh for prenatal use
Hi there
I bought some of this today as it said on the pack that it's good for getting your nipples in good condition for b/f. Does anyone know if this is true? I was unable to b/f my 14mth daughter when she was born due to a lot of pain with attachment & bleeding etc and now that I'm due to have another in October I'll do anything to make sure it works out!! :fingerscrossed:
Thanks guys
I've got some in my cupboard, just have a quick look.....
It says Lansinoh may also be used to condition the nipples! So I don't see why not! Good luck! :)
I love Lansinoh.. it was my saviour in the beginning.. I used it prior to giving birth, I don't know if it helped, but I still have my first tube and I've used it for other stuff too.
I did that, and have hardly had any problems with sore nipples, and DS is 4.5mths now.
What I also did though, for the first month, was give my nipples a salt bath after each feed during the day, or whenever they felt a bit tender. I didn't actually have to use lansinoh after DS was born, except maybe once or twice.
I must admit, I don't know, but I did notice it said that on the tube. Make sure you let us know if you think it works!!!

Bummer! Wish I'd known that it could be used pre-natal prior to having #2.
I didn't discover it till the 2nd time round and it was amazing at healing cracked nipples. I cannot speakly highly enough of it!

I used Lansinoh when I was pregnant, but not to condition my nipples - I have eczema, and for some reason, was getting it on my nipples when pregnant - sorry if TMI - but couldn't use my normal cream, because not good for bubba.
I did have a lot of problems breastfeeding DD in the first couple of weeks, and also ended up with cracked, bleeding and excrutiatingly painful nipples - It does get better if you persevere (but only if you get the attachment right).
Don't pin your hopes on Lansinoh, (although it is fantastic post-partum too), what I found helped was getting a lactation consultant - they were able to advise me about how to improve my attachment, which cured all the problems I was having. It was hard, and it took a good 6-8 weeks to be entirely comfortable, but it did happen.
Good luck!
I had some of this and when DD2 was born and I was trying to bf the lactation consultants told me never to put anything other than BM on my nipples. The areola has conditioning lumps (called montgomery's barnicles... cr^p name) that provide all the oils and stuff to keep nipples supple and they said that cream like these can block the duct and cause infection.... Don't know how true this is but that's just what they told me.
