hello all,
I was after some advice, my DS is 8 and a 1/2 months old and he's a pretty big baby lol.
Well my DD is now 3 and when she was 9 months i put her on cows milk! Which she went fine on.
But I've been reading up on it, and everything i read says not to give it to them till there 12 months.
Just wondering what other mums think... :fingerscrossed:
12 months minimum here...
cows milk can cause major internal problems in under ones, your DD may seem fine now, but who knows what could happen in the future...
breast is best for bubs tum, formula if your not breastfeeding, until age 1. it also has all the nutriants they need that they arent getting from food at that age....
ETA - my ds1 was 2 before he started plain cows milk

:iagree: with QTB. It's too big a risk for intestinal problems in little ones. I even resorted to buying 2 different types of milk, coz I only drink skim milke.
Even though your little man is not so little, he is still several months below the recommendations. The risk is slight, but it is still a risk.
Hope this helps :)

hmm i've been thinking about this a bit lately.
i always heard that you're not supposed to give your bubs milk till they're one [i think that's what it is?]. but then i was wondering what they make formula out of?
and a friend i was talking to the other day, weaned her daughter at 10 weeks, onto cows milk, not formula. her daughter is now 15 months, never had formula.
sorry, not much help, but just wanted to share that

Formula is dairy based, but it's made so that babies under 12 months can process the proteins better. It also has much more nutrients such as iron, than cow's milk does. I'm shocked that a 10 week old baby was taken off formula eek;

I wonder what they use to give babies back in the day that weren't breast fed.
Because i am pretty sure formula hasn't always been around...

they breastfed, or wet nursed... if all else failed they used evaporated milk! :barf:

My DS was also a big baby but i waited till he was 12 months, it then took a looooong time to wean him off formula completely, there is a lot more nutrients in formula that a bub needs...

Formula has been around at least 50 years (my mum was ff and she's 50). Before that some used condensed milk or cows milk. I suppose wet nursing was also more common too.

My gp told me that cows milk was fine to give, but to also give pentivite- that was a few years ago now though. some baby books still reccomend cows milk if weaning from BM after 9 months ..... eg robin barkers baby love- im considering the same thing sort of. DS is 9 months BF during the night but wont feed during the day, he eats heaps so i was considering a cup of A2 milk during the day, still not sure:confused:

The reason they say not to give little ones milk until 12 months is because they need the extra nutrients and goodies in either BM or formula. Their growing little boddies really need it. My Nan weaned all her kids on to cows milk at 6 months but you think that milk was in its purest form then and more than likely full of a lot more nutrients than it is these days.

I tryed given my bub cow milk at 14 months old and he just refused it, he his now almost two and he is on the toddler formula for aged 12 months onwards. Even now and then i will try and give him cow`s milk and he goes to drink it and hands it straight back to me. I dont mind though as i know its good for him and im not going back and fowards to the shops every second day to get fresh milk so i works for both of us.
