I just bought seven avocados tonight before the shops shut. Because I ran out but all of them were very firm.
I use it as butter on corn thin's and I really wanted to have some corn thins so I found the softest one and cut it in half, it was not ripe and has an unripe smell.
I blended it up to make it easier to put on the corn thins but now I am not sure I want to "risk" tasting them.
Is it okay to eat an unripe avocado?
It smells like it would taste all "plant" like and "tangy".
Thanks
if you have any ripe or over ripe banana's put the avocados next to them. it will make the ripen up quicker.
un-ripe avocado isnt to tasty and its really hard to spread. i guess you coud say it tastes leafy:confused:
ETA: sorry totally missed the part where you said you blended it up

There's nothing poisonous or bad about unripe avocados - other than they taste like cr@p... something that you are about to learn the hard way if you haven't read this thread already
You'll have to leave them to ripen before you eat them. You might be able to speed it up a little by placing the avocado in a brown paper bag with a ripe banana. Bananas give off a ethylene as they ripen, which helps other fruit to ripen faster.
That's why fruit in a bowl with bananas will go off faster than when they are on their own.

They don't taste very nice unripe:no:, I have tried to eat them unripe so many times because I was to impatient to wait for them to ripen:o

its ok to eat but its just a little blah to eat
wrap the others up in paper (brown paper bags or news paper works best) with a banana if you have one, leave them in a warm sunny place and they should be fine within a day
if yo find the one youve already blended is to blah to eat add a little taco seasoning to it!
Sticking them in a paper bag with an apple works well too

Or a carrot..
Wow.. I never knew the banana in the paper bag trick! All my avacodos are unripe too.. are they going out of season?? Just my luck if they are, as it's the only thing my DD eats!!! lol

I don't even worry about the paper bag. I just put mine next to bananas in the fruit bowl and they still ripen up pretty quickly

I agree. Sitting them next to bananas will ripen them in no time at all. You can ripen any fruit by sitting it next to bananas.
