Sorry I don't have a rice cooker.
I'm not a caterer, but I would estimate 1 cup (250g) of uncooked rice for 2 people, so it may be 35 cups, so if my measuring is correct, that would be 8.75kg of rice to feed 70 people. Hope this helps.

but if 1 cup of uncooked rice makes 3 cups of cooked rice - would 1 person eat 1.5 cups of cooked rice? i am not really a rice eater so i don't know. how much do you guys generally do for your families?

I use half a cup of uncooked rice to feed 2 adults and a 3yr old...tho before DS was eating the same as us I still cooked the same ammount.

Yes always remember rice triples !
I only ever use half a cup for myself, DP & Boof.
I did rice with a meal a few weeks ago for 8 people & not thinking when measuring as my aunty & i were talking & she was like " yeah 3 cups is fine ! " so we had an abundance of rice left over i would say the 3 cups wouldve done 10 people easy !
So that being said i would do 21 cups & maybe an extra cup to be sure.
It is better to do too much than too little because you can always use the leftovers to make rissotto's, fried rice or even rice puddings !
Good luck hope all goes well :D

First I need to know - will it be a buffet or pre plated food - this makes a huge difference.

Okay I too am in the catering business - rice is always the hard one. I have found that people never eat too much rice - just a little bit and alot of whatever is on offer. Having said that though, with catering you never know the croud so never know exactly what they will eat.
I would try and work on around a cup of cooked rice per person. Don't fret if there is alot of leftovers - rice can be used in anything.
You can't really lose though as you work the cost of the rice - all of it, not just what they eat, into the price per head.
I am quite happy to say that we have never done a job and been short of food - and that we have never lost money either.

Oh and please tell me that you are planning on pre cooking the rice either friday night or saturday morning and not on the night - thats too hard.

i was thinking of cooking it on the night as i am unsure of how to heat it up as we have limited microwave space at the hall but an ok stove. how would i go if i cooked it up in the morning and then reheated it? what is the best way to reheat rice?
