Hi everyone,
I've only recently started reading up on cloth nappies and I can seriously feel an addiction coming on. It's the strangest thing! My daughter is 14 months old and I would love to make some of my own MCN's for her (and for following children some day). I get so excited reading about it all it's just bizarre - especially coming from a full time disposable user.
I have been trying to find a good patter to start off with but I don't know the good from the bad. Does anybody here make your own and have a good pattern that you could share with me??? Also, I am a little confused with how many layers and the different fabrics to use etc so advice would be greatly appreciated...
From what I have read so far I think I like the pocket nappies because they dry quicker - is that right??
All advice is welcomed!

Oh it is ADDICTIVE isnt it, lol.
i dont have a pattern big enough for a 14 month old but can point you in the right direction of some, you could try the australian nappy network, or the NZ one both have links to FREE patterns. or if you have a MCN that fits your bub well you could just trace around it, just make sure you make room for the seams. the wee weka is a pretty basic pattern and it has online instructions too.
Pockets are my fave, and i like AI2.
have a look at greenbeans in NZ (they have links to patterns too) and nappies covered both great places to buy fabric.
and for a pocket you will need-
outer- PUL nappycut
inner- microfleece or suedecloth- nappycut
for inside pocket-(absorbant bit) bamboo or hemp, i do a 30x30cm square i can fold up inside the pocket and then when you hang it on the line it drys quicker.
i hope that helps if you have any other ???? try the nappy making section or PM me im always around

umm..I'm Juliet and I'm a nappyholic
I prefer AI2 to pockets but thats me. Bubba Earth and snaps australia often have nappy fabrics at good prices.
Outers : PUL or fleece
Stay dry layers: microfleece or suedecloth
Absorbent layers: Bamboo, hemp or microfibre.
If you can, try to get to some of the nappy week events and have a look at some nappies in action!

ok, I admit, I'm a bit addicted too.. and would be even more addicted if I didn't work :o :D
I made a couple of pockets for DD when she was about 10 mths, she's now 19 mths and they fit her still. I used the WEE WEKA pattern, and it worked well. Actually, I also made a fitted from the wee weka pattern, but it's a bit too big in the butt.
I'm currently fighting the urge to spend today wandering through the aust nappy network site looking for new patterns - it's a work day today, but this addiction is strong. I think I need a support group
Good luck, babydust, finding your pattern - btw, I got fabric from bubba earth.

Oh wow - thanks so much for your replies. This certainly helps me out!
In regards to the AI2's - how would this pattern differ? I'm struggling to come to terms with the differences between all of them.
