I've used cloth on DD since she was born and she's never had any form of rash down below. Every now and then I'll see around her anus is a bit red from a poo that's obviously a bit strong but a bit of bottom balm and it goes away by the end of the day. She does, however, get a spotty rash if I put her in terry flats (which really annoys me because I love them for around the house in summer) but I think that may be bcause they don't absorb as well as the bamboo and stay wet against the skin.

Anyway last thursday I noticed a funny looking rash down there which spread like wildfire and got very enflamed. Turns out it's fungus and probably a reaction from me over-eating on sugars a couple of days before (DD has a VERY sensitive tummy). So She's covered in daktozin which is ruining my fleece liners and I'll be scrubbing it out for the next 100 years but it's going away. The chemist thought it was also a combination of fungus and contact dermititis. I didn't really think he was right as she's never had a problem before but after I got her out of her night nappy this morning I noticed around her thighs where the gussets sit on her legs there's perfect red 'rash' in the shape of the gusset as if someone had drawn squgly lines on her with a red marker.

Has anyone else had this?

I'm thinking I should probably strip wash my entire stash  as I think I've been using too much detergent (half the normal amount but sometimes it's only a half wash and still use half of what's recommended for a full wash :o). Plus have not been using the egntle stuff I use on her clothes, just the normal earths choice.

So will the hot wash ruin the nappies? Our stash consists of mostly BBB plus some blueberry pockets, BB AIO, bubblebub minky's. Does it have to be a hot wash or will it work on warm?

So frustrated. Have her in the boidegradable corn sposies atm so I don't ruin any nappies with the barrier cream :hair:

A hot wash isnt going to hurt the nappies, as long as its not boiling IYKWIM. Are her legs touching PUL? I find that DS is sensitive to PUL and wherever his skin touches, it leaves a "burn"

If she hasnt had the problem before, maybe do a good strip wash. Have you considered using soapnuts? They are hypoallergenic and make the nappies nice and soft.

I would also say it's a reaction to the detergent. We had it happen to us. We've now changed to purity for all her clothing and nappies, she has sensitive skin and reacts easily.

One hot wash shouldn't be a problem, but I wouldn't be doing it every day. I would however check the care instructions of the makers, they know their product best.

I hope you get it sorted soon.

OK eczema/dermatitis queen here! I have it ( *cough splutter* for 31 years now) as do my kids.
Contact dermatitis in the nappy area is no doubt from your washing powder and it can also be from acid in bubs wee (EGA. teething, medicines, diet) Washing powders etc, is a hard one as different people can use different things. We use Amolin sensitive liquid. It works for us, my sons clothes get a double rinse as he had major problems with detergents soaps etc.
I also bath the kids in oats, plain old breakfast oats in a stocking or a washer with a hair band tied around to hold them in! Oats leave a protective barrier on the skin to lock in moisture and stop itch but you must pat the body dry not rub for this to be effective.

Personally i would strip wash all your nappies to remove build up. They try a different detergent at half strength.

I also use cornflour for nappy powder and i put in under my boys arms as he is quite sweaty and gets dermatitis there.

Thats about all my advice at the moment, but bear in mind it is really trial and error with detergents as i said Amolin is fine by our skin whereas it may not be for yours.

Good luck, hope bub improves for you soon! :hugs:

I had considered using soap nuts but it's just another thing I have to remember to order online and have enough of. I've been using an organic wooll/delicates wash on her clothes so just might use this on her nappies also and be anal about the amount I use.

Will the eucalyptus oil in the wool wash harm the nappies?
