i was sitting in the hospital waiting room the other day waiting for my sister in law and i was reading a note thing and it was talking about hospital costs and c-sections .(not that i am aiming for a c)
i am currently only on a medicare card and am not elligable for health care ,having said that we are far from rich or well off :p when i go into hospital to have my baby how much will it cost me? or will it be the same as people with the healthcare cards??

I WAS on a health care card, but I'm pretty sure that with a public hospital, all the basic services they offer are free.
You may need to pay for the "extras"... but you get the basics free of charge. (by extras, I mean more than however many ultra-sounds they suggest, for example. I only had 1. If I wanted more, I'd have to pay...unless I NEEDED more).
I'm public too. They can't charge you for any medical stuff you need, just extras you might want like an extra ultrasound for example. However if you need an ultrasound from some reason, like you have concerns about reduced movement of the bub, that should be free as well.
(If they try and charge you for a week 20 ultrasound they can't! The Brisbane Mater tried to tell me it was "optional" at first, which is a load of ****. So instead of getting a 4D scan, which they where trying to bill me for, I got the normal one...which BTW shows more diagnostically.)
