How do I get my 6 month old BF daughter to sleep longer than 3 hours at a time.

I dont expect her to sleep all thru the night but by now shouldnt she be sleeping longer than 3 hour stints?

I honestly don't know.. But my two have only just started sleeping through properly and they are almost 3 and 17mths! :o

Don't stress too much, its still 110% normal for a baby of your little ones age.

Has she always done 3 hours or is it a new pattern? If not it can be a growth spurt. Maybe if you are ready to introduce solids that may have some impact, but still give her a BF first. She could have a very efficient digestive system! Does she seem to want a feed, or does she just wake and seek it more for comfort? I can understand by 6 months you wouldn't mind some longer stretches of sleep!

She has always done 3 hours, longer when she was little and on the very RARE occasion.

When she wakes I always feed her, there is no way around this, I have tried many times not to but she cries and tries to snuggle into my boob. I dont know if its a comfort feed or a hunger feed, she does guzzle it down.

She has been on solids for 3 weeks now and hasnt seemed to make a difference with her sleep at all..

I think each child is different - my DS is 11 months old and has never slept more than 3 hours and is fully breastfed as well. I still feed through the night... yawn. Hopefully it won't last too much longer!

Thanks Ladies, I tell you, I have aged 100 years since having my daughter

Last night she woke nearly every hour and half,
I know she is teething but its still hard work.

:fingerscrossed: that our babies start to sleep longer stretches soon.

*yawn* I never had any of this "not knowing" what to do with my son he was just so easy, Ahh well spose I cant have two easy kids :D

It took ages for DS to get a grasp of solids and be eating enough to make a difference with his sleep (several months). He was waking every 3 hours from 5 or 6 months to after 7 months when we were just so worn out we did the horrible controlled crying out of pure desperation. It worked brilliantly and within 2 nights he was sleeping through without a feed.

I know cc'ing is a very unpopular technique and I hate it, but it did save our sanity at that point in time. I wouldn't have done it to him if he'd been teething though. Just a personal choice.

He was 100% bf, with solids starting at 6 mths.

DD2 (who is now 13 months) woke up every two hours for a feed until she was 11 months.

All normal...she now usually only wakes once or twice so it does get better, just give it time and get as much sleep as you can!

Yep, totally normal.

The thing which helped me immensely (other than chanting "this too shall pass ;)) was actually banning clocks out of the bedroom so I wasnt obsessing about exactly how long bub had had between sleeps, that was what was doing my head in!

As soon as you just let go, and flow with the go, and lose your expectations, you actually cope a heck of a lot better...

All the best :hugs:

Have you tried doing feeds 1-2 hourly on the lead up to bed so she is good and drunk?
