We are moving soon, and I can't wait for Homefind, even though I know I'm going to be dissapointed in the house selections I'm so addicted to looking all the time at it... I wish I could look all the time at all the houses all the areas and all the levels.
Anyone else love HOMEFIND??
haha yes I'm the same Sam, LOVE homefind when we have access and yes checked all the time. That's what you have to do though and if you see the house that suits, grab it while it's there.
Angela - I ALWAYS check the DHA investment site and look at the houses lol. They are really lovely aren't they. If you look at the WA ones at Ellenbrook, they've been there for most of the year now but that's the quality of housing they are building over here but unfortunately we are in a house over 10yrs old so ours is nothing like that. Those houses are so big. The bedrooms are twice the size of what we have here and storage is amazing. Tiny ****y backyards. They vary though but ya know since we have a huge backyard, front yard and side bit (we are on a corner), I'd be happy with a tiny backyard that's low maintenance.
Unfortunately housing like that you won't find everywhere, especially at Wattle Grove, those houses are about 10-15yo. I remember when our neighbours (back in NSW) moved there when they were first built.

I never get to look at homefind. They never have a big enough house for us, so they don't even bother giving us a password these days. I have already been told that we can have RA, but now there is nothing in our catchment zone (for DS's school) that is in the right price range and big enough!:crying:

I love love homefind.
It's so exciting to just 'pick' a new house.
it's almost like bidding when you find the one you want and you reserve it!
I do however find, that the pictures are so deceiving. We picked a house on DEB in Darwin and I went on base to check it out and got there and freaked out because I was NOT living in that house. DHA were so sick of me pestering them. lol
We've just moved into our 5th DHA house. Vantage Point apartment in Darwin, really clean, new & nice.

oh I loved staying at vantage point but our appartment made the hidious(sp) loud noise when the wind blew through the belcony safety rail. DHA said it was an act of GOD but it was actually because the polls that held the top rail on wern't ptoperly welded and wind got caught inside them so it sounded like a train on my belcony...Grr I ended up fixing it by weaving the hose through the polls....
But other wise loved the pool and gym
I used to work at BANK SA on Knucky st

Which building in Vanatge point?
Im in Emms Tower.
I work at Savings & Loans on Mitchell... SO easy to walk to work.
LOVE the pool especially this time of year.
The above apartment seem to move furniture around all the time... it's really creepy actually.

I used to love looking too, but I must admit the best 2 houses we have lived in haven't been from homefind.... one was on base and we saw it and asked for it .... the one we are in now didn't even make it to homefind, they just rang us and offered it.

I'm not sure what the building was called but when you drive towards the building our was the first on the right. With the BIG POOL!!!
The house we had in Sydney was offered to us as well as we had 5 days to find and pick our home, there was nothing available that would allow a cat so we were stuck. I loved ourplace in Sydney and want it back when we move back to Sydney....
I also knew a couple who lived at Vantage Point and they had horrid neighbours and so on and was also very noisy. They ended up moving to RAAF Base.
Phoenix .. yeh DEB is quite bleh .. some of the houses on the RAAF Base are bleh too especially in the streets towards the highway. We were in the top left corner near the big park and loved the street, the neighbours and the location. We had a split level home so not too many stairs, but trying to keep a puppy in the confines of the yard was ****.
Angela, when you're looking for a home, make sure the floor plan has measurements on them so you can check bedroom size, living areas, fridge space etc. If they don't have it, ring DHA to get them for you. Often they have floor plans the same on other houses.
I usually choose a house and then a school but our locations have been good and always within walking distance of the school so if the car conks out, we still can get to school. I love walking though and now that it's lovely warm weather, I'm making the most of it.
I don't envy you trying to fit 5 kids in a house. How many bedrooms are you entitled to ? prob only a 3bedroom ? cos of the ages of the kids aren't 4yrs or more. Although alot of the new housing is 4 bedroom. I have trouble with 3 kids in their own rooms (having a child 8yrs younger helps with that).
Best of luck

I just put in the details to get our move on the go.
We should have HOMEFIND in no time.
lp in wa
The photos for our house were 5yrs old and I asked if they could put current pics up and was told no but it depends on who you get and at which DHA cos some are useless and some actually are willing to help as best they can.
I did all our communications via email. If they hadn't responded to an email I'd send a copy and say 'on such and such a date I emailed you this .. copy attached but haven't heard back from you yet' type thing.
Maybe ask if you could go up to the next entitlement just to give you more choices but you'll have to pay the extra rent.
