Ok hoping someone can answer this one, I have picked up hubby's cold (grrrrrrr) and now I am worried they won't let me have my laparoscopy on Tuesday, the stress for Tuesday is it allows me to start my clomid tuesday night and not lose this coming cycle which we are hoping will be more successful because of the lap. Does anyone know if they will stop a procedure under general anaesthetic because you have a cold?

Thanks!

When I went in for my Laparoscopy in August, another lady awaiting day surgery had a cold. Basically they get the anethatist (sp?) to come and talk to you and assess you as its the anethitists decision if you go under or not.

Fingers crossed you have a few days to get on the mend. Would be worth ringing the hospital and your surgeon prior and letting them know too.

Rest up and get lots of fluids and cold and flu tabs in to you.... Goodluck, I hope it all works out for you.

Craftymum is correct, it will be the anaesthetist who makes the call.

Basically it will come down to your chest. If it's a head cold and you are otherwise healthy with no lung problems you should be OK. If you have asthma or other lung issues and there is evidence of a chest infection then the anaesthetist will be reluctant to take the risk. Of course, different anaesthetists have different opinions on what is too risky, so it's hard to say with any certainty until you see them.

Unfortunately with a laparoscopy you require an anaesthetic with a breathing tube (with some operations alternative types of anaesthesia can be used) so it really will come down to how your lungs are sounding on Tuesday.

Look after yourself, plenty of fluids (this will make sure that any respiratory mucous is thin and easy for you to move) and as difficult as it is when you have high hopes for this cycle there really isn't much you can do. Ultimately your health is most important and that is what your anaesthetist will be thinking about when they decide if ur OK for surgery or not. HTH

:hugs: & wishing you a VERY speedy recovery!!

:iagree:I had a high temp and very sore throat when I had my lap surgery done - I rang the day surgery unit the day before to see if I should still come in (didn't want to waste their time on the day if there was no point) and the nurse said the anaesthitist would make the call. They listened to my chest and decided to go ahead with the surgery. The sore throat was made a lot worse though by the tube being put down it; hopefully you will feel better soon and good luck with the lap! :flowerz:

Thank you ladies! I am going to call my OB tomorrow to give him the heads up but it is just a head cold and I don't have a cough so taking it as easy as I can, just got to get through tomorrow :) then all systems go for Tuesday
