Hi Louise, my DS has been doing the same thing in the last few weeks. It started when I moved him into his own room. He usually settles pretty quickly and I just put the dummy back or soothe him. He does it maybe 4 or 5 times. I thought maybe it's because it is cold, but I leave the heater on at night. Hopefully someone can tell us more!:hugs:

Yeh apparently it is normal. i had the same thing with DS and the CHN said that it happened a lot when they aren't in deep sleep. Apparently they have sleep cycles of active and deep sleep. They have a tendancy to cry during active sleep. It is a bit scary when it first happens tho!!
Oh yeh and you aren't supposed to pick them up, because it wakes them fully.

well i found the easy to not pick her up and leave her dream as when i was picking her up she was getting really upset and would hold her breathe so i would only pick her up when she was real bad but if comforts helps pick bubba up if not i would leave bubba an just rub bubba's face and talk and usally wake up out the dream!
stacey
we all first time mum 's at some stage iam still learning too!
THANKYOU!

Don't worry Louise, Im a first time muumy too and sometimes I don't know what the heck Im doing,  !!!
I would maybe try not to pick him up, unless he is really upset of course. I usually do what Stacey said, pat him or rub his face. I find if I pick him up it disturbs him even more. Hopefully it helps!:hugs:

Love ur 3 cutie pies too!!!!:D
Yup just wanna second what ther other moms have said. My DD does it all the time and it's completely normal. Just sleep paterns. Try not to pick him up. I leave Anna if she cries in her sleep unless it goes on for longer than 5 mins in which case i get up and pop her dummy in or get her into a comfy position. Hope all goes well:fingerscrossed:

hey girls once again thanks for the help,
you guys have all said try not to pick him up, but he is not stoping unless i do- i have been touching his hands face and telling him its ok mummies here and still for how ever long this still happens untill he starts to scream in his sleep the only thing that makes him stop is me picking him up and holding him close to me{i guess it just makes him feel safe} although its not such a great thing when i have to get up out of bed and pick him up as it's a never ending thing and im not getting alot of sleep... o and his dummy is still in so its not that, that his crying for...
awww lets hope it stops sumtime soon..

my kids have cried in their sleep, I leave them for 1-2 minutes, and then wait.
DD (whos 2) still does it a fair bit, she will cry for about 30seconds, but at 2am, it seems alot longer. If she cries for what I feel is a little long, I will say "hey baby, mummy's here go back to sleep" and she does
THe other night we heard her laugh and talk in her sleep for about 5 minutes, it was so sweet LOL (she's in our room due to space, not choice)

well all my three children did this and it was that they were dreaming i was told by a pediatrician and to let them for 5 sec and wake them so they relize its dreaming not reality as some dream there still in the womb and can stop breathing :(
that what i was told
how on earth does he know that??

i know a peadetrician knows more than me, but i'd seriously be taking that with a grain of salt. that sounds like absolute bollocks to me. as if they would know that a baby is dreaming of being inside the womb. no offence to you though. and to say that might stop breathing is putting unnecessary fear into you.

ok well have you let him just cry maybe he's doing it because you are picking him up and he is getting you out of bed and thats not good when you need sleep..
try just patting his head and rubbing him and say soemthing like mummy here do you have a cot mobile to try and soothe him or if you pick him up and rock him and sing a lullabye and put him down if he continues let him cry thats what i do with my dd! she goes to sleep now..... worked for me
hope this is of some help
stacey
I agree with Stacey, try the lullabye thing. I will sometimes put on his Flutterbye music and light show on without the lights on of course if he wont settle during the night and he will just drift back off to sleep. I think the music soothes him. Hope it helps hun!!

yes i know i had my first son at 18 and i was so worried and confused
and i got so many diffrent answers but this pediatrician insisted he was right!
and i was always checking all the time that charlie was breathing but soon learnt it wasnt or musnt be right!
stacey
of course you would be worried and confused. its scary enough without being told that. oh well, it might be one of those cases where there is no right or wrong answer
