I've been looking at
Eco La Bassine http://www.simplybirth.com.au/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=shop.flypage&product_id=31&category_id=1&manufacturer_id=0&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=26

and

Ocean Reef Birth Pools http://www.pregnancy.com.au/ocean_reef_birth_pool.htm

Are there pluses and minuses to these?
I'm with the Mater Public in Brisbane, they don't allow water birth and I want to spend as much time at home in a pool before going in...maybe even doing it all at home. I can't afford a midwife to be called in, is this still a safe option?

I used the La Bassine (Simply Birth, Made in Water) whatever you want to call it.
It was great, I was happy with it.

My midwife supplies them for her clients and she always uses those ones.

I haven't tried any others so can't compare.

What you are talking about is Freebirth I guess. There is a Freebirth section in the Homebirth section of this forum :D

just letting you know the ocean reef one is at big w for $49.99! I'm probably going to end up getting that one. Only real difference is it is 61cm tall rather than 65cm.

I used the 'made in water' pool, it was fantastic. i dont have anything to compair to though. i still found that it wasa bit shallow though, i was kneeling leaning against the side and needed a hot water bottle on my back.

I've just pre-booked the La Bassine one from Brooke, as I have a TINY TINY TINY hot water tank, and this one is only 450 litres. LOL The Ocean Reef one is, I think, closer to 750 litres, plus, to me, looks too much like a kids paddling pool with the designson it. I just can't take it seriously!

I'd go the La Bassine.

Its comfy and exceptionally popular so it would have GREAT resale value too.
