My dd is only 19 mos and not at all ready for training, but I'm wondering how to manage it with her at childcare 3 to 4 days a week? I know I'll need to use a similar potty to that at childcare and keep them updated daily on her routines. But all the "tips" I'm reading say things like that in pre-training you should be letting them sit and do some activity or read there for awhile. Or to let them run around naked - like that's going to happen at childcare!

I'm wondering if it's best to wait till I'll be home with her for a few weeks straight to get through the initial training? Any suggestions or experiences of other people who work part time would be much appreciated!

In most childcare centres they go by what you are doing at home but most don't use potties just toilets (but they are much smaller than at home) we start them by sitting them on the toilet when changing their nappies and talk to them , sing songs etc. When they start to get the hang of it then we will put a couple of toileters on the toilets at the same time and talk, sing etc. eventually they will be able to take themselves, it's not as hard as it sounds and any good childcare will support you when you decide it is time. I wouldn't recommend pull-ups unless you are travelling in the car or shopping etc as they are like nappies and don't work well for toileting, use just normal underwear and the process will work a lot quicker :)

Hi Martha
Day care trained my nearly 3 yo for me :D . I just packed about 4 pairs of nickers every day and a change of pants. She was going to daycare for only 2 days a week (at that time) and I just followed their routine when we were at home. We've never used a potty, just a small toilet seat that sits on the normal toilet.

We had a sum total of two accidents at home and that was it. (Although I did have to wash out her shoes about 3 times after day care accidents :( ) It was pretty cruisy.
Cheers
