hi all

was watching my DS play with my plastic coathanger the other day. every time i moved it away, he'd look fot it, then crawl over to it and start playing with it again. it's become his favourite toy after the junk mail that he likes to rip up and try to eat, and trying to get to the cat (puss is just too fast for him at the moment!!)

makes you wonder why i bothered spending any money on toys at all

thought i'd ask all the other mum's what's the best cheap or free toy that your DC loves?

Maxx (my nephew) used to love news papers when he was crawling. now hes 14months and loves pots, pans, and cooking utensils wooden spoons ect.

there is even a brand of toys called 'Maxx' (spelt the same as my nephew) and my sister spent hundreds on the toys but hed prefer to rip a paper to shreds or pull the phone cords!

When Eloise was really little we had a few empty soft drink bottles - small ones - with rice in them that she loved to shake. An orange net bag filled with cellophane is good one too - loves the sound. She also loved (still does) empty toilet roll tubes or wrapping paper tubes.

Now that she's a bit older, I've given her my old wallet and some business cards and she loves playing with that.

Same with my DS. I actually filled one up with Rice and he loves it. All the other ones just seem to sit there?!!!

My son loves empty boxes such as nappy boxes. He calls them his trailer and piles it to the top with anything he can find. He also has a thing for toilet roll holders and egg cups?!

He thinks it's just wonderful, have no idea where he has put it now though.
