Baby in face presentation?

My friend has just had a C/S as her bub was in face presentation position. I know it's quite an unusual position, but I was wondering if anyone has experienced it and given birth vaginally?

I'm interested as I have the same doctor as her to deliver my next one and I'm a bit (irrationally) scared of having a C/S!

Yes, I have heard of it, and I've seen a pretty amazing picture of a face presentation bub being born vaginally. Face presentation is pretty rare in itself, and to be in a position where you birth vaginally is also pretty rare, mostly home births, or if no-one realises what is happening and bub just comes out that way.

Someone I know had a brow presentation bub vaginally, and it was pretty excrutiatingly painful for her, but she did it.

Chances are this bub will not present that way, have you thought of having some Osteopathic treatment on your pelvis, sometimes unusual presentations are in part due to misalignment of the pelvis, and you may want to look into Optimal Foetal Positioning as something to try to encourage bub to sit in the best position as well.

If you are scared of a C/S, perhaps shop around and find someone with a very low c/s rate, or even better go with midwifery care...

DD1 was an 'angel-faced' baby (born face up towards the heavens) and she was delivered vaginally with no tearing or intervention (I cannot have epidurals)!

I have a bad back (congenital bone deterioration in the lower lumbar) so I found it incredibly painful as her spine was resting against mine the entire time.

But we managed to safely deliver our bundle of joy in around about 9 hours with no c/s :) DH just mentioned that it looked totally alien seeing this little squashed face sitting between his beloveds legs :laughing: but he survived the entire delivery and went on to not only catch her as she shot out after the head and shoulders were delivered but he also cut the cord!!

DS2 was an face presentation bub.
He was delivered vaginally in 2 hours with no drugs OR intervention:yes:.

DD was either a brow or face presentation but also persistent occiput posterior. I didn't know it at the time, it was never explained to me and it has taken me a few years to figure it all out.

My labour was pretty long, pretty excruciating and she has to be delivered with forceps as she was stuck. But with more information, I the problems with my labour and birth could have been largely avoided.

2 hours!!! I'm jealous :laughing:

The only thing that really scares me about DD2 is how much more pain might I be going through....DD1 wrecked my back and the Dr cautioned me about a 2nd and that was 1 yrs ago! No matter....plenty of stretches, light exercise and love & support will see us through a second.

2 hours was too Quick.. Felt like I had one contraction that lasted 2 hours..

My DD was born in 1 hour 20. So even quicker. Thank goodness she was facing the right way. Much more bearable:yes:

My sister was an angel face baby - but she cam out all bruised becase she wanted to "play" with my mum's pelvis before she came out. they monitored her in an incucrib for a few days but she is perfectly normal (for the most part) 16 years later
