I've got my first AF after having Ani (gotta love bf for keeping it away for 10months :yelclap:)
I'm going through pads like they are tissues.
I will admit, I am daunted by the prospect of cloth pads...nappies I can handle, but i'm just not a fan of menstrual blood :o
So come on, convert me. Tell me about costs, benefits.......any other things that are likely to sway me
I will do my best,
I love cloth pads because:
They are absorbant
They are pretty
They are natural and breathable
They do not end up in landfill
They save you money
They dont have nasty chemicals in them
The water you soak them in is wonderfull for the garden
They feel nice.
I have about 12 pads at about $10-$15 dollars each. While that may sound like a lot of money I will not have to buy any more after this months for 5-10 years, that's a big saving!

:iagree: what she said. They don't feel bulky like disposables & they shape to your body easier, so much more comfortable.
Plus, the wings don't stick to each other & impossible to pull apart without wrecking the pad lol.
They're fold smaller than disposables & you can usually clip the wings together to keep them folded. No more wrapping coming off the pad & picking up all the dirt from the bottom of your bag.
They're easy to wash & quick to dry. Once you've got your stash will save you heaps of $$$

I like the cow print ones... :o
They feel less like a snippet of a nappy and more like undies.
Once you have enough to get you through a month, you stop buying them. So I suppose you could say it is a one-off cost. Imagine the money you could be saving!
Plus, the water you soak them in makes FANTASTIC fertiliser.

Is it true about pain reducing & bleeding lessening?
And can you recommend some brands?

Is it true about pain reducing & bleeding lessening?
I can only speak of my own experience here. I have been getting my period for 19 years (feeling old now) and it has always been a minimum of 7 days filled with heavy flow, crippling pain, fainting and vomiting.
Since I have started using cloth, it has started changing. My last period I used all cloth and it went for 4 days of light flow with one day of pain that was dealt easily with a heat pack, didn't even need pain killers.

Here is a list of reasons to use cloth/cup.
1. Shorter AF
2. No pubic hair stuck to the sticky wings
3. Less cramping
4. Lighter flow
5. Little to no yeast infections
6. Makes AF exciting
7. Good for the environment
8. Easy to wash
9. No jarring of AF against white (at least with mine! I use dark colours, so its just like not having it!)
10. Support WAHM's
11. Absorbent fabrics
12. Organic fabrics
13. No leaking off the back at night time
14. $100 for a reusable stash instead of throwing away $100/year on disposables
15. No stinky bin in the bathroom
16. Homemade fertilizer
17. Save money
18. Feel good about going 'cloth' just like your bubba
19. Ease when travelling
20. Get to see you blood - learn about your cycles and body
21. Doesn't suck your insides dry (cup vs tampons)
22. No known TSS risk with cups
23. No rush to the shop when you need pads/tampons NOW
24. Male partner never has to buy them for you lol
25. No skin irritations
26. Materials like bamboo and silk feel fantastic
27. Feel spoilt
28. Less nasty chemicals where it really counts

Good list.
I use cloth pads because they are more comfortable. Paper and plastic pads are sweaty, the adhesive shifts constantly they actually promote heavier bleeding and cramping. Some women report that they have lighter and less crampy periods with cloth menstrual pads.
I save a lot money this way, I love knowing I will never run out of pads.
To wash them,
After I use them I put them in a bucket of cold with a bit of tea tree oil water to soak. When I am I ready to wash them I put them in the washing machine. And them hang them on the line in the sun.
