Do you think you are or will be a strict parent?

I think I am in the middle, not strict, yet not a push over like my mum was/is

I always thought I would be strict, but since getting my dog (my practice child) I realise that I am full of hot air.

DP pretends to be strict but he's just a big pushover. He gets the thong and calls himself Thong Man and goes out and pretends to whack the dogs when they're playing up. One day I looked out the window when I heard the smacking sound and he was hitting the concrete. Tuff guy Thong Man!!

When he came inside I asked him if he had whacked my dog and he said yes!

We are both big bluffers. With my nieces I make empty threats non-stop and they take no notice of me and I just let it go. Unless I have a headache or sore back or I am really tired, then I get a bit more snakey and less patient with them. They know when I mean it and when I don't and I am sure my son will be the same.

What do mean by strict though?

Firm but fair
Or over board
-yelling at all the small things
What does strict mean you?

I plan to follow in my parents footsteps.

They were always strict with me but always fair. We worked on a reward system etc.

My DH's parents were strict with him from what he has said but he has 3 younger brothers that are still at home and they get away with everything. (or so it seems)

When I think of strict I think catholic boarding school in the 50's run by nuns.

So in that way, no I probably won't be strict.

There will certainly be boundries that will need to be adhered to, but I'm sort of hoping my parenting skills will be so I don't have to become a strict mum. I don't want to be one of those parents who screams, yells and hits all the time:eek: , in fact I know I wont be, its not my nature. As per my 'Saying No' Thread, I feel bad just saying no to my daughter.
