our bub is 6 weeks old and will not settle on her back at all, she has colic and is v unsettled ahnd the only place she can handle it is on her tummy.

yes it is a slightly higher SIDS risk and yes it does worry me too.

but in saying that my mum said in her day all babies were put to sleep on her tummy, so try to keep it ion perspective.

I know its not the right thing to do these days but sometimes babies arent perfect or know what the right thing is to do.

sorry if this is bad advice but i just wanted to let you khow we too have abelly sleeping baby - you are not alone.

And yes I check her constantly ....

I was going to post exactly the same thread today. My 6 month old is doing the same thing, rolling over and waking himself up.....:hair: It is driving me crazy cause he was sleeping right through. He rolled over during his morning sleep yesterday, I checked he had his head to the side and left him there, he slept for 3 hours. I guess just like us as they get older they are going to move around more. My problem is I'm now forever checking on him to make sure he can breathe, I hear him moving around and go it to check on him and I usually end up rolling him back and waking him up aswell. Ds sleeps in a grobag but still manages to roll. :hair::hair::hair: Oh well who needs sleep anyway...:sleeping:

I've put DD to sleep on her belly since she was 6 months as she does settle better. As long as they have good head/neck control they'll be fine.

our bub is 8 weeks old and like trickylee he has colic n is unsettled. I didnt want to put him on his belly, cause i too had heard lots about sids. yes i worry all the time, but its the only way he will sleep, and if his sleeping at all then im happy.
By 5 months they are pretty good at moving around anyway, thats why they say to stop wrapping them etc so they can get themselves out of a hard situation.

I've been told once they can roll themselves onto their belly, it's fine to let them sleep like that. DD started at about 5 months and now, at 9 months, rolls into all sorts of odd positions. Once she was on her belly (always head to side), bum up in air with legs tucked under her - sound asleep.

Just make sure there are no big toys, quilts or pillows for their head to end up under and you don't have cot bumpers up. Just because it's alittle bit harder for them to turn their head when they're on their tummy.
