Well after reading threads about these nifty little devices, I've been seriously considering one.
So I googled and got a whole forum dedicated to them!!
There is so many to choose from...

found this site...http://menstrualcups.wordpress.com/category/the-cups/

How much did you research?
What did you look for?
What do you recommend?

...Are they comfortable?...they look big (:o)

Help me decide!!! Please!

Don't underestimate the wonderfulness, comfortableness, sizableness, amazingness, conveinenceness, that be menstrual cups. ;):p

From my personal experience, tampons are much more uncomfortable to insert because it's a hard poking item. The cup is either made of silicone or rubber which makes it very flexible and it molds with your individual shape like no tampon ever can.

Tampons poke into you a certain way and can sometimes rub up against the cervix which is nasty bacterial wise, (bad smells) and also, cause you to shed excess blood during the sensitive menstrual timing.

However, the silicone/rubber cups do not 'poke' into you, they are positioned comfortably, they sit low and only collect what your body would naturally shed. No excess bleeding.

It's really too good to be true.
I say, don't knock till you try it. ;)

not uncomfy at all!
what makes you think it would be uncomfy???

once it it 'pops' open and creates suction around the cervix.

i had to cut the whole stem off mine cause it poked me a little but after it was gone i cannot feel it at all. where as i could feel tampons.

its the best thing i ever bought and only wish i had bought one along time ago!

i have the diva cup.

took a few goes to get it right inserting it but now its very easy to do.

They go in as far as a tampon would. You fold the cup in half and insert it, then it will open and suction will be created, holding it in.

Unfortunately they are not on the shelf yet but you can buy from

LUNETTE (http://www.mylunette.com/home)

or try Ebay for a diva cup.

I'll try and find a diagram I once saw that displays where exactly a tampon should be positioned. (Usually high up near the cervix).

It then shows you where the diva cup is supposed to sit.

My Diva cup sits lower and comfortably.
When I say lower, I don't mean it hangs out.
It goes in far enough for the stem not to bother me.

I suppose thats another great thing about menstrual cups, the suction it creates and the way it is designed/the material it's made from makes it easy to wear as you please, it molds into your individual shape.

I've been ummming and ahhhhing about these for a while now...as i use tampons and hate my menstral goings so thought a cup might be a lot better and more comfortable!

oh cool...thanks for the responses!! :D

I thought it might be 'uncomfy' because it looks quite big..and that stem bit...hmmmmm. But maybe because it is soft and felxi..then I can kinda imagine it 'forming' to my own shape.

So did anyone look at the link I posted?...can we in Australia get any of those, or only the lunette or diva.?

I think I like the sound of the lunette.

hmmmmm...maybe time to do a personal measure and quote !!

I was looking at this site because it is an Australian one...

http://www.mylunette.com/home

I like the idea of the start up pack - $65..maybe go the deluxe pack though...$80.50 includes the pads and wash & wipes(& only $5 fixed postage).and then buy bits and pieces as you need them i guess...
(How funky are the panty liners!! I think I'll go with this one just for them.....)

Still looking and researching...

All very exciting - like I'm taking another step into my womanhood!!

any recommendations appreciated girls :D

Hi im thinking about getting a cup. I can get a divacup for $32 on ebay. Is that a good buy? And what do you clean them with? Are they anygood for heavy flow, im so sick of having to take towels to bed and get up 2 times a night to change pads... Would it be better to get one of those packs someone was talking about? Do i need the cloth pads?? Sorry for all the questions, just want to make sure i get every thing i need. thanks

Well....I just ordered my Lunette!! :D

I got the deluxe pack...Cup, pads, wash, and wipes for $85.50 with delivery.
they say it might last for 5-10 years, so money well spent 'hopefully'!!

Will see how it goes and get back to you.

(I don't have heavy bleeds over night , so I can't give any advice on that)

I got the pack with the pads, just incase I have leakage, and for the last couple of days of AF.

:fingerscrossed: it is here by next AF so I can give it a go, (weird hoe I am so excited!!)

 Not weird at all..... My diva cup arrived just yesterday and I'm eagerly awaiting AF to give it a go.... Never thought I'd be anticipating the monthly visitor but hey embracing womanhood is a great thing..... I actually had my 16 yr old sister express that she might like one..... which excites me even further.....

Ordered myself a few cloth pads today too, and a wet bag..... so in full flight! And once uni semester is finished I'll actually pull my finger out and make some more!

Lovely world that bubhub extends to you isn't it! :D

Well I must say its only day two and usually I still have a fair amount of back pain etc at this stage, and tbh I wouldn't even know its that time of the month....

Being my first go I wasn't game enough to wear it overnight, and will prob continue using pads overnight once I build a proper cloth pad stash.... I'd also use liners when I go out as a just in case, but I normally did that with tampons too so nothing new there....

To be really honest, my first day pain was halved and that's just with a first use.... its normally excruciating, and was to begin with but eased quickly so I'm stoked already....

Insertion... well it looks more daunting than it actually is.... takes a little to get used to, but once its in you wouldn't even know its there.... I love it! Only had to trim the stem slightly and comfy as can be...

Cracks me up that we talk so candidly about a menstrual device...

Has anyone got a lunette and a diva? because i don't know which one to get.
They look daunting. especially since me and tampons do not like each other. at all :(
i'm hoping these might be a bit nicer.
I'm tempted to go for lunette just cause you get pretty coloured pads (which can be traced to make my own :yelclap:) i like this tread :P

my sister and i each have mooncups. and i am planning on buying some for my teenage dsd's. they are bigger than tampons but so much more comfy. and i have found since using mine that i have less cramping and bleed for less too. and its so easy to empty. i just jump into the shower and empty and rinse and put back in and if i need to empty it during the day i just use a little water bottle (with a pop top) and some toilet paper and tip it into the loo.

AF arrived today! (now I know why I've been cranky today - it wasn't just the weather!!)

Excitedly ran to my box of goodies and sterilised my new lunette cup.:D
Made sure I read the instructions at least 3 times...
first insertion seemed a bit tricky, but tried to relax and all feels fine so far.
Will be interesting to see how the week goes.

hmm i want to try one, do they make af go away quicker? Is it hard to get out without "spillage"?

FiveInTheBed
31-10-2008, 19:48
well I'm satisfied!!!:D

It was a bit tricky to get the hang of insertion the first time, and I worked out it suited me better to snip a bit of length off of the 'tab', but after that - great! (just need to 'get to know' your girly bits!)

AF arrived Sunday night about 5ish, and was finished by tuesday night !!!!:smiliedance:- never, ever before- usually I wear tampons for at leat 4 days. the spillage wasn't a problem at all, because I went slow, (you need to kinda bend it to break the suction seal IYKWIM, and for me it was only ever just under half full, so no risk of spilling.)
I did the emptying and cleaning in the shower aswell, the wash from lunette is really nice and natural smelling!

I can't say much about cramping because I had only just started a work out session (situps inc) & came down with gastro :barf: on wednesday.

I did use the cloth pads as a back up, which was lucky, I think I was nervous and fiddled with the postion too much, so got a tiny bit of leakage. But they were great too - comfy and easy to wash and wear.

...I never realised how much I don't bleed, if that makes sense, apparently tampons make you bleed more?!

I LOVE MY LUNETTE!!!
and I can say that after one use, and don't ever see myself going back to tampons!

Oh and I rode my exercise bike, did situps, ran after the kids and played basketball on Tuesday night, and never felt uncomfortable, or nervous:thumbsup:

...any other questions I'd be happy to answer:D

Does anyone know what the incident rate of thrush/candida is with the cups? I get thrush every month now even with chemical free cotton pads from the supermarket. Haven't tried cloth yet as I'm investigating my options

Thanks
